About this listen

A demon, an Unseelie faerie, and a vampire walk into a bar...

This Ivy Granger anthology contains short stories set in Club Nexus, the hidden haunt of Harborsmouth's paranormal underworld.

"Iced": A bargain gone wrong leads a highborn Unseelie faerie to life as an enslaved bartender with a taste for revenge.

"Dusted": Being a highly skilled predator doesn't necessarily put you at the top of the food chain at Club Nexus. A southern vampire with a hankering for blood and wanton violence may have bit off more than he can chew.

"Demonized": The demon attorney we love to hate has his eye on a certain rockabilly human. Too bad she's brought a crossbow loaded with holy-water-dipped bolts for this night on the town.

"Jinxed": Just when Jinx needs a carefree girl's night out with Ivy, a smoking-hot demon tries to buy her a drink. She really is the unluckiest human on the planet.

CLUB NEXUS REVIEW

CLUB NEXUS was an interesting listen. I liked it but not as much as I liked BLOOD AND MISTLETOE. It was from different points of view of the characters and I wasn't sure about the changing of the voice. It was hard to get used to. It was overly dramatic when it didn't need to be. I feel it would've had better legs had it been read normally.

That being said, I think the series will move past it and still be good. In this book, the listener gets a better idea of who the characters are therefore possibly setting up the next in the series. It was a super idea with the same setting and different perspectives, just too dramatic.

TRACI ODOM's voice was contrasting to the narrator from Blood and Mistletoe. I'll have to listen to the next book before I can form a solid opinion as I had a hard time with the voice change.

A few hours in Club Nexus, and we learn the danger

If you could sum up Club Nexus in three words, what would they be?

Jaw dropping events.

Have you listened to any of Traci Odom’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to Traci in two previous books in this series, and this is the best vocals for different characters yet. She does a wonderful job of slipping into the different characters. She even drops her tone to project a male image with a slight accent.

Any additional comments?

The four stories are all of the same time within Club Nexus but from four different views. Each view brings in new information about the characters and events that take place in Club Nexus. I like how these stories all intersect yet are different and bring us one step further with each ending. We learn something new in the events of the night we are living through.

In listening to these stories, I almost forgot Traci was reading them to me. That's a good thing! The story took over and the narrator blended into the story.

All the stories are in the first person though. But as short stories it works well. And Traci using different voices and taking on each character makes the first person fit to the stories.

Love the short story collection

This both is and isn’t a short story collection. It’s a book where you hear the same story, but from the view of different characters. It was a lot of fun to read. I hope to hear more about jinx and her suitors later in the series.

Club Nexus

This was an enjoyable short story with the same evening from different points of view. It was a lot of fun to get to see all the different takes on the same events. I enjoy this series and want more of these characters. Though I am annoyed at the choices of some of the characters. Hopefully certain things will get fixed in the rest of the series.

Great story told from various POV

This is a great short, urban fantasy story in the Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective series. The story covers one night in the paranormal nightclub, Club Nexus and is told from the POV of Jinks, Forneus, a high born Unseelie fae and a southern vampire. This story reveals the dark underside of the nightclub and the depravity of rouge vampires. It also manages to make you laugh and shows us the that demons might have a softer side.
The narrator did an excellent job of the different accents, as well as doing both male and female voices equally well. I really enjoyed her narration, especially the vampire, Cyrus's southern twang.
It was great hearing the story from the different perspectives, it illustrated well how one’s own concerns colour how things are seen. My favourite was Forneus’ point of view, and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him at the end. This enjoyable story interweaves well into the other books in the series, has humour, action and romance to keep you entertained.

Very interesting Short Story told from Several POV

This is a very interesting short story. It is the story of a single event that happens Club Nexus, but it is told from four different points of view from start to finish. It is a very interesting way to tell a story. This is the first story in the Ivy Granger series that isn’t told from Ivy’s POV, so it was interesting to get all the different aspects.

First part of the story is told by a Unseelie Fae who has been working as a bartender in Club Nexus for several years. She made a bad deal with Puck (yes, that Puck, from Shakespeare fame) who is also the manager of the club. She decides that she is no longer going to be a slave to Puck and she is going to get out from under that bargain.

Then we move to the next part where we are told the story from a vampire. This southern vampire has come to “Bite Club” where he could break the vampire rules. This keeps things from getting too boring. The traveling location helps prevent them from getting caught.

Up next is Jinx. How great is it that we get to see this scene from her point of view. I love Jinx and I love that we finally get to see inside her head.

The last part is told by Forneus, the demonic lawyer. I liked this part of the story most of all. Seeing things from his point of view was very interesting. I actually felt sorry for him in this story. Now, I’m even more interested to see him in the next book.

This was a very quick read and the four points of view were fun. You would think it would be boring to listen to the same event four times, but seeing it from a different set of eyes each time adding a high level of interest.

Narration
Traci Odom did a great job with the narration with this story. She has to talk from all four point of views. I liked the Southern accent of the vampire. She really made it easy to know you were changing from the different POV.

I like to thank E.J. Stevens for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Superb!

Can't believe that I haven't read this one yet! Basically it's short stories from the point of view of several of the characters involved in one somewhat brief but unsavory event. These views help the reader get to know some recurring characters quite well, but the whole really is better than the sum of its parts! I loved it and the skilled audio performance by Traci Odom is beyond fantastic!

Outstanding short!

**Audiobook provided by the author for an honest review**

Club Nexus is about one night at the club told from five different people's perspectives. This style of writing about the same event where all five characters ultimately get involved was fangtastic!

After Jinx begged Ivy to take her back to Club Nexus, the two go for a girls' night out but not without back up and a shit-ton of weapons! At the club we have a fairy being held prisoner by the bar owner and a demon looking for love in all the wrong places.

I really enjoyed the story with our favorite demon Forneus. He hasn't really done anything wrong or bad, he's just getting a bad rap because he's a demon. A demon that has the hots for a human...not just any human though, Ivy's best friend Jinx. Jinx hates demons with a passion! BUT, she also has some sexual attraction to this demon, and I think that's why he keeps sniffing around her. His story really made my heart melt for him, and now he better win Jinx or I'm going to be pissed!! The new characters that were introduced were very intriguing and add a bit of insight for what is to come!

Narrator Review

Traci Odom narrates this lovely story for us once again, and rocks it! I love how she was able to give two different characters a British accent but completely different to each individual. Now that's talent baby! Traci scores a 5 star rating for this one!
