Coachability is a “must read”

Coachability gets to the root of the real issue with coaching others. Are the recipients of the coaching coachable? I gave the book to my team and then Kevin Wilde conducted a short but powerful workshop.

Insightful and Practical

Coachability is an excellent resource for those looking to improve. It is engaging, insightful and, most of all, it’s practical … with checklists, tools, tips and guides that help the reader move from insight to action. If listening to the Audible version, I recommend downloading the accompanying “Notebook” (thecoachableleader.com/notebook) before you start as it’s referenced throughout and is very helpful to bring the content life.

It’s an Art … the ability to be coached

In the book "Coachability," Kevin Wilde illuminates THE limiting factor – LIMFAC - that that blocks effective coaching. The book's theme is both indispensable and compelling, especially considering the evolving landscape of modern leadership. Wilde's authentic, experienced, and engaging tone sets an inviting stage (or is it sets the challenge?) for readers to embark on an exploration of self-improvement and transformational leadership.

Stop reading this review, ask, “Am I coachable?,” and count to ten…with your eyes closed. If you think you ARE… you need to read this book.

Throughout "Coachability," Wilde shows us what it means to grow…through his stories, activities, and – I will repeat myself – challenges. The book is not just relatable (I recognized myself in every chapter!), it also serves up practical illustrations of the material. Over and over again, Kevin shares deeply personal experiences of both his own journey and the journey of the leaders who have leveraged coachability to their advantage.

If you like to read real-world scenarios of the author’s thesis, read this book!

The strength of this book lies not only in the storytelling but also in the wealth of research that supports his ideas. As a lecturer at the University of Minnesota, Kevin draws upon his experience with his material AND how his students use it to his viewpoints with empirical evidence, showcasing his dedication to the subject matter. This rigorous, research-based approach elevates "Coachability" from being just another leadership book to a well-grounded guide backed by scientific evidence.

The second half of the audiobook is perhaps the most valuable section for those seeking tangible, practical applications of the ideas presented. Wilde has done an exceptional job of distilling the essence of coachability into actionable advice gleaned from studying successful, highly coachable leaders.

PAUSE: If that is a new word to you – Coachability – please pause and reflect. A LOT of books talk about what to do as a leader, as a manager, and as a coach; have you ever studied how to BE coached?

This practical approach makes the book a rich resource for those striving to enhance their leadership potential. Whether you're a seasoned leader or just beginning your journey, this section provides invaluable guidance on improving your coachability quotient.

One of the standout features of "Coachability" is the bonus material that comes with this audiobook. The extras provide insights into key concepts and give you solid application ideas. This enriches the listening experience, ensuring you get even more from the book. The bonus material is a recap and deep dive simultaneously, further ingraining the main points while extending the learning journey.

I recommend "Coachability" if you want to elevate your leadership capabilities. It offers a blend of engaging narratives, robust research, and practical applications, all delivered in Wilde's sincere and captivating tone. It's more than a book; it's a toolkit for anyone willing to become a more coachable and, thereby, successful leader.

Actionable Leader Guide to a Growth Mindset

Kevin Wilde has long been a thought leader on leadership development, and realized that coachability was the big difference in leaders that were able to grow, and the missing information in much of our leadership literature. His research is clear - higher coachability results in higher performance and promotability.

I've read tons of business and self help books, but this one stands out as being concise and immediatley actionable. This book made a difference in my leadership style the very next day, as I was able to employ simple aks and techniques to get more out of feedback and seek more feedback.

I love the stories that Wilde uses to illustrate his points. But I especially love that the bonud excercises at the end of each chapter encouage you to identify your own personal stories and learning moments. I was surprised at how much self-insight I found by journaling on a couple of the prompts (and I'm someone who does a lot of self-reflection already).

The second half of the audio book shares specific and practical application of ideas from Wilde's study of successful, highly coachable leaders.
