About this listen

PJ Harlowe

Quitting my job and moving back to my hometown was the furthest thing from my mind. But when my best friend called with an offer I couldn’t refuse, I chucked my rude boss the deuces and uprooted my life as quickly as possible.

As the new CFO of my bestie’s company, I am living the good life, which includes sharing his penthouse in a ritzy part of Charlotte, NC.

One short trip to the wine store had me returning with a red wine stain on my white outfit and an attitude. When the cocky man who gave me both shows up for my "welcome home" party, things get interesting.

Sexy and cocky, Max Shine, the locally famous weatherman, is the life of the party. His dance moves have all the ladies standing in line for a chance. I hate him. So why do I want his mouth on me? Why do I want to fight the woman hanging on him? Then he opens his mouth and reminds me. Yep, I hate him.

This was really good. I wasn’t expecting the depth this book contained. The subject matter was realistic and interesting.

PJ's best friend Lattimore seems to always get her out of a jam. He helped her with Max. Poor Max was always used to the attention but when it came to the woman he was interested in, he just could not navigate those waters. He needed help, serious help. When he finally got PJ to the place he wanted, things went awry. PJ was in her feelings for a multitude of things in her insecurities of her upbringing. Her crazy Uncle Jack didn't help and neither did exes.

I really didn't like either of these characters. PJ was very closed off with good reason, and Max just did not have the natural charm to woo a woman, regardless of their personality faults, they still managed to get back to where they wanted to be. I did not care how the story ended. It ended just too abruptly to me, without a clear ending.

PJ and Max what a bumpy ride
