About this listen

Confessions of a Token Black Girl is a snappy comedic tale framing Danielle's first-hand experiences in Wisconsin and other places as the perpetual "token Black girl", fraught with dark moments and hate crimes. It's a coming-of-age-story but instead of finding herself during a road trip, Danielle found herself through the effects of racism. This book humorously chronicles Danielle's quest for understanding what Black identity means to her - instead of what it means to everyone else.

I am sure I am decades older than the author, I could identify with her life story. I think this should be required reading for high school aged students. I’m thankful she wrote this. The world needs more and more reminders of the privates sufferings of Black people.

Many of these experiences I felt as a child growing up in CA. Living in WI as an adult having to prove myself, wanting to be looked at beyond my skin in the workplace was challenging as well. The way foreigners see us, based on what is seen on TV. I really enjoyed this book. I hope to find more reads from this author.

Loved this book because it put into words what I’ve always believed. This is worth more than a single read. Everyone, no matter their race should read this, if they really want to be anti racist.

I've never read a book before that felt so much like it was written for me and my life. It was real, funny, and more relatable than any thing I can think of. Thank you, Danielle.

Wow. My first full review of anything.

Loved the conversational tone. The sass and wit were just in the right places. The only criticism I have is that I wished it were longer!

Frank, Hilarious, on point
