Publisher's summary

Two trained killers at a staggering altitude....

Raya Parker, the 14-year-old daughter of a senior US black-ops official, has vanished along the trail to Everest. Also unaccounted for are one of the loyal bodyguards assigned to protect her and an unassuming Nepali porter.

After a prolonged wait for their first contracted assignment, Jason King and Will Slater touch down in Nepal. They’re not exactly thrilled by the task - they assume it’s a routine opportunistic kidnapping. But Raya’s father, Aidan, has done brilliant work for his country, and if his family is at risk, he deserves the best.

Then their grip on the situation spirals violently out of control. Soon enough they’re deep in the throes of terror, battling savage hostiles and the brutality of the terrain itself, and they can’t figure out who the hell is behind any of it. As they ascend higher and higher on the long trail to Gokyo Ri, their energy saps, their bodies crumble, and panic intensifies....

What use is elite combat training when you can hardly breathe?

Mostly excellent

Overall, I gave this story 5 stars because the story line truly was excellent. Don't think you've got it figured out. Every time you think you do, the author will prove you wrong. Filled with action and suspense, it is difficult to put down. Why 4 stars for the performance? The narrator occasionally has trouble switching from one voice to another and tends to overlap them. Sometimes it was difficult to determine who was speaking. Why 4 stars for the story? I guess what it comes down to is that the level of physical damage inflicted on the 2 protagonists just is not realistic. When you come down to it, you just don't jump out of an airplane flying over a river and survive. You don't get your arm sliced open from elbow to wrist. slap some staples on it and then go mountain climbing in Nepal. It is almost like the author is trying to see just how much damage he can inflict on their bodies in each book and still get away with it. I don't care what kind of shape you're in, there is only so much disbelief you can suspend.

What a ride

Just when you think you have the plot figured out, yet another twist joins in

King and Slater are the best action tandem around.

This is the second King and Slater book I've read

This is the second King and Slater book I've listened to and I can honestly say both books have truly been enjoyed. Well written and the Narrator's performance has been outstanding. We'll done Matt Roger's and Kevin Kenerly. Just purchased Book 3 and looking forward to listening to all the remaining books.

Current storyline!

Outstanding book. Unable to put it down once I started. The storyline was great and very up-to-date. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is prior military as I am.

Good story

Good story, much more realistic story than the first book. Still some room left to catch up with Brad Thor or Robert Ludlum

This novel will make you averse to visiting napal.

Wow, unbelievable action and entertainment from this imaginative novel that is beyond belief in the concepts of corrupt business practices, terrorism politicians who are obvious sociopaths.
I have never been to Mount 🗻 everest and the description of the efforts and physical effects to the bodies underscores my aversion to such a concept of traveling to napal.

Great continuation

Enjoyed book very much its a great listen when driving to work and then home I the two primary characters King and Slater are depicted by the narrator very well I have been able to envision them as I had several friends in the military Marine Recon and Rangers who could be these guys. This series is awesome and allows ones imagination to follow along and be there with the action you can see the action displayed in front of you, that old saying the fly on the wall the narrater brings that out in the telling of this classic series of fiction ready for book 3
