About this listen

Trapped in a pocket universe....

Having survived the Brood’s first assault, the battered human battle group must now take the fight to the enemy’s home systems.

Defeat is not an option. If Captain Husher and Admiral Iver can’t lead their people to victory, then not only will those in the battle group perish - so will all of humanity.

A desperate counterstrike is their only hope.

Another exciting installment

The fight to survive long enough to find a way out of the sub-verse was touch-and-go on multiple battle encounters. Such was the ferocity of the Brood, the reluctance of the Scion (their reluctant ally) and the double danger of the enemy's ability to force-turn defenders into enemy monsters.

Scott Bartlett and Joshua James made the protagonist side more real by providing ample backstory on some of the secondary characters for listener investment, only to find them fall during future battle encounters. Husher also continues to delay disciplining his XO, Shota, until later in the novel. Even given that Husher is a pragmatic leader, it was still a bit unrealistic to give his XO this much leeway; especially considering that Husher is a 60 year old Captain veteran.

The story was crafted so well that even until the very end, one couldn't be absolutely sure who would survive, even among the MCs.

Mark Boyett continues to perform to his usual premier level.

What a wild ride!

Couldn't stop listening, fell asleep but finished this morning. pretty much action packed but character development is not ignored. If you're looked for military space it's you can't go wrong with this selection but it will help to read or listen to Book 1 first especially because you may feel compelled to do so after getting into the story.
if you're a fan off Scott Bartlett, don't think twice about starting this series, you won't be disappointed. I'm not familiar with Joshua James but this turned out to be an excellent writing collaborate with no obvious gaps at all
Narration is just what you expect from Mark Boyett, easy to listen to but never flat.

Thousand X’s better than book 1

A heck of a lot more interesting than book 1 but not quite a 5 star. I have high hopes it will get better as the series continues though!

Space Opera at its finest

What a remarkable space opera. Warning a lot of people die including some very good characters. Definitely leaves you with a cliffhanger. Can’t wait for book 3 to be released.

This adventure has the Relentless, Providence and a host of other vessels trapped in a pocket universe. It picks up directly after Trapped. Once again Husher is the key to winning this battle. This has been a long Journey since the Ixa Prophecies and the introduction to Lieutenant Husher.

I hope the next novel features more Scions.

A wonderful series for space adventures

Once again Mark Boyett brings the wonderful words of authors Scott Bartlett and Joshua James to life. The Counterstrike books are so good with well sculpted characters human and non-human. A recommended read for lovers of space adventures.

Another great one

I cannot say enough how pleased I am to get more stories in this series. There are so many great new science fiction series coming out these day which I love but the Ixan/Vin Husher universe creates by Scott Bartlett is my absolute favorite and Mark Boyette is a master at bringing the characters to life. This is another great book from the duo. I have to also note that Joshua James has done a splendid job coauthoring this Fleet Ops series with Scott and I plan on finding more stories written by him.
