About this listen

A mystery full of colorful characters (both two- and four-legged!), gorgeous country landscapes, timeless traditions, and the breathtaking thrill of the fox hunt.

The fox has made short work of the henhouse and is wreaking havoc across the once-peaceful Virginia hunt country. As Master of the Hunt, "Sister" Jane Arnold, her gentleman friend Gray Lorillard, the members of the Jefferson Hunt Club, and their loyal, clever hounds confront a most challenging - and all-too-human - adversary.

Performance.

First of all I love Rita Mae's Books. I have been reading them for a long time. Her stories are mysterious, magical and correct to Fox Hunting. As a Fox Chaser myself I find myself visualizing the coverts and jumps as they gallop along in the books. I really hate to say, but feel I should, Rita Mae may want to try having another reader for her books. I have met Rita Mae a few times and she is a great lady. However her delivery on the stories is not what I would like to hear. I may not be the same as Others. I like to have a change in voices for the characters to have different inflections in the voices. If not a completely different sound from the reader. It is sometimes difficult for me to ascertain which character is speaking.

Sorry to say narration is distracting.

Where does Crazy Like a Fox rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love this series, and this installment is no exception.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not on the edge of my seat, but engaged throughout.

How could the performance have been better?

I am hesitant to mention, but feel I must, that the narration was very distracting. This author is obviously an extremely talented writer, but not so talented at reading aloud. Her inflection, pronunciation, and seeming breathing difficulties are painful to listen to.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved the story, characters, setting and everything but the narration.

Any additional comments?

Since I can no longer ride, I especially enjoy the descriptions of the hunt’s activity. I can feel the sensations of wind, horse, dogs, etc. due to the details given

Fun and Entertaining

Very engaging. It's quite nice that Dr. Brown reads most of the books. Always learn something too!

Interesting story, diminished by the narration.

Authors lay it out for you, they explain. They can't relate the work as a story, in the read-me-a-story style. I knew it was the author speaking after only a few words. That said, the story is fun, especially if you want to be informed about American fox hunting in richy rich Virginia. Maybe a few too many characters for an audio presentation.

very disappointed in the narration.

I love this author and her stories. however she should not narrate her stories. So disappointed to have paid this much for an audio book. I struggled to get through it.

This was not a performance.

This is just Rita Mae Brown reading the book aloud. Dull Dull Dull. I like her stories but she is not a good reader.

Her narration is really bad. Read them instead.

I have read and loved Rita Mae Browns books for years. While hit or miss sometimes, it's always been worth it to hang in there. Her narration however is SO bad I won't buy anything further here. She stops frequently to swallow or what not. She has no different inflections for the different characters. With a cast of characters this large it makes your attendance drift away and you lose track of who or what is talking.
