An Astra Militarum Audiobook

Ursula Creed, Lord Castellan of the legendary Cadian armies, returns to the remains of their home world on a mission of the utmost importance.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Follow the daughter of legendary commander Usarker Creed back to the scene of a galactic crime, and see how she deals with her father's legacy and the pressure that the name 'Creed' brings.

THE STORY

What does it mean to be Cadian after the Fall? Ursula Creed has come to terms with the loss of her home world. For decades she has built a glittering career in the furthest reaches of the Imperium, far from her legendary father’s shadow. But when unexpected orders arrive from the Avenging Son himself, Roboute Guilliman, the new Lord Castellan realises that the past may not be ready to let her go.

Dispatched to the shattered remains of Cadia in search of Ursarkar E. Creed’s final battle plans, Ursula finds the planet a hellscape full of deadly secrets. What horrors claim Cadia’s corpse as their domain? What became of those left behind? What orders did Creed leave for Cadia when all was lost? And, most troubling of all, how can she succeed where her illustrious father has already failed?

Fantastic but not perfect

The book is great and the new lord castellan is a great character i definitely think she has a place in the setting. The only issue I have with this book is just a couple of lore inaccuracies and mistakes but unless you’re a massive nerd like me you probably won’t care. For instance a guardsman is not going to survive an encounter with a legionary from the death guard much less a psyker (and from the description an outcast deathshroud veteran in terminator armor) not that that fact takes anything away from this book. It’s just a couple things here and there that you’ll notice but I’m honestly nitpicking here so this is definitely worth the listen.

Best of Warhammer

I’ve read and Listened to countless Warhammer novels. This would be ranked, in my opinion, amongst the best. Compelling story and characters. A few good twists and and a solid conclusion. A must Read/Listen for any Astra Militarum fan!

Haters gonna hate

This book is a great introduction to a character and a setting that has to move forward. All the elitist nerds are gonna talk smack. She’s a baller and the story touches on so many important things in the era indomitus it’s a must read. And both instances of creed are amaze balls. Enjoy with a pinch of my salt.

Worth a listen

This story reminds the current setting what it means to be Cadian. And why they're called "DEATH WORLD"

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this guard book. The story of a ragtag team coming together to overcome the improbable is always dear for me. The performance was fantastic from top to bottom. Pacing is solid, never felt that it dragged on a part too long. It takes itself seriously compared to the Caine books. I'd say the tone is closer to Gaunt's Ghosts(I Highly Recommend). Be warned, it doesn't jump straight into the action. So if your attention span is short listen to this at an increased speed. Not much of a spoiler... but Nurgle enjoyers may get something from this work.

Cadia Rises

This book keeps you guessing the entire time. I loved the additions to the world building, and the chaos taint on the planet was well written and evocative without straying into self-indulgent excess. I also have to shout out Colleen Prendergast’s performance too, as she brought the characters to life wonderfully. In all, an excellent story that was told by the perfect writer for Creed. Can’t wait to see what Reid does next.

It's fine...just not significantly notable.

Worth a read/listen for the good bits (and there are absolutely worthy segments throughout which I won't spoil here). Just to be clear, it wasn't bad; just wasn't REALLY good. The broad strokes were relatively predictable. There were, of course, some elements of surprise or "I didn't see that coming" or "I totally forgot about that - nice." At the risk of seeking too much realism, some tactical aspects truck me as deficient, which was disappointing given the characters in those scenarios. There were a few times where decisions seemed out of character for the character making the decision, which tends to erode immersion in the story. As a fan of Cadians, I had high expectations; this may have contributed to my overall feeling that this was somewhat underwhelming and, again, too easy for me to predict the next beat, situation resolution, etc.

It wasn’t terrible.

Avoiding spoilers, I felt that Ursula is portrayed as a bit too noble bright to fit in the setting. She’s not a Mary Sue by any means, she has flaws, weaknesses, and they all play a part. But overall, her characterization is pretty weak.

The story concept itself isn’t bad, but the execution of and some of the ideas are poor.
