About this listen

It's been years since the first Emergence, since the first specimen of the kaiju scourge awoke from millennia of dormancy beneath the sea and wrought untold devastation upon the cities of man. Much has since been lost, but a great deal gained, too. In the crucible of extinction-level events, a new breed of super-soldier, capable of interfacing with the beasts, was born.

We follow Captain Reynolds and his crewmates, Kiyo and Maks, seasoned kaiju pilots with many an averted disaster beneath their belts. To them, saving the Earth is just another day at the office, and they thought they'd seen it all.... Until the balance begins to tip in favour of a new threat, of a being far more ancient and powerful than they have yet encountered. Everything is in place. The stars have finally aligned.

In Cthulhu vs. Kaiju, epic fantasy author Mitchell Lüthi has penned a love letter to both cosmic horror and kaiju with a single stroke of his pen, and harnesses the chilling ambience of At the Mountains of Madness and the action-packed ostentation of Pacific Rim. This one will leave you breathless, and clawing at your ears for the voices to stop.

If you’re looking for a fun short story about kaiju fighting Cthulhu, with well described and well narrated action, and a solid use of Cthulhu mythos thrown in, this one’s for you! My only complaint is that it wasn’t long enough!

Pretty Fun!

need a part 2 where he comes out again and the emperor takes him on. I legit thought that was going to happen here in this one, would have been a pretty good ending

A great idea written out ( almost) equally great. A few details us Lovecraft fans will cringe at - like Cthulhu has a tail? Yet, overall a worthy tale.

Wow. The story requires the listener to suspend their disbelief - however, that is doubled when the narration role is taken by a, yes a very good reader, however one who sounds very proper, feminine & stepping occasionally into delicate and childlike.

I was jarred out of the story every time the narrator spoke a line with a beautiful high, practically musically youthful voice.
Her other female voices were equally feminine and gorgeous. Of course, this made her stretch to voice for the Russian tough-guy sound like a silly cartoon.

I really longed to hear a rugged woman read this. A darned “butch lesbian”sounding narrator - be they male or female, that doesn’t matter.

Oh well, it’s done. Guess I’ll have to wait for the next female filled story about Kaiju vs Cthulhu

Good story / wrong narrator
