About this listen

Average schools don't inspire greatness - and greatness is what our world needs if we are going to produce world-changing learners.

In Culturize, author and education leader Jimmy Casas shares insights into what it takes to cultivate a community of learners who embody the innately human traits our world desperately needs, such as kindness, honesty, and compassion. His stories reveal how these "soft skills" can be honed while meeting and exceeding academic standards of 21st-century learning. You'll learn:

  • How to reach those who seem unreachable
  • What to do when students disengage or drop out of school
  • How to ensure your learners feel cared for and empowered
  • How to create an environment where all learners are challenged and inspired to be their best

The content of the book was excellent! Many of the points reinforced the things we are missing in our buildings or why people react the way they do. My only qualm is the speed of reading. I had to turn the speed up to at least 1.5 to stay engaged because of the slow pace of reading.

Culture is Everything!

Wish this was a required read for every teacher. AMAZING stories that made finishing this book quickly easy. The author was the narrator, adding a bonus benefit for audio listeners. My favorite part was the story of the shuttle bus driver. I had to pause the book and call my forth grade teacher. Yes. It is THAT inspiring. This book calls to action all that we should be doing. Whatever it takes. I'll read again. -6th grade teacher

Initially I was underwhelmed with this book. Jimmy's reading voice seemed very unenthusiastic, almost bored. I also thought it was just going to be a bunch of feel good cliches and buzz words that leave you with very little in the way of actionable ideas and practices. However, the book really picks up after about the 3rd chapter. Jimmys passion for education is inspiring and his advice is timeless. He really drives home the practices we need to be using to create successful school cultures. The book is slightly more geared for administrators, but I am a teacher and I found it very applicable as well. I shared some of the ideas with my administrator. This would be a great book for a book club. I highly recommend this book.

stick with this one

Thank you Jimmy Casas for writing this book. Thank you for sharing your story and the story of those you have encountered. You have given me the words I needed to hear to renew my heart, my mind, my soul, and my purpose as a teacher. Thank you for reminding me that we are the hope for many of our students. Especially our at risk students in our classrooms. I am teaching a difficult group of 2nd graders this year and your book has changed my mindset and has allowed me to see my students differently. I am calmer, more patient and more positive. I am building a better relationship with my students. Your story is powerful and will trickle down and help so many principals, teachers, and most of all so many children. This book must be used as part of any teacher or administration program as a college course. Thank you for your passion and for following your calling to write this book. It has truly blessed me to listen to you in this audio book. I will be recommending it to others. Please tell your family thank you so much for the time they shared you with others. The time you took in writing this book so you could help so many children, teachers, and administrators. Your family deserves to know they sacrificed to help others as well. Thank them and thank you!
