About this listen
Becky is sure that turning ten on the tenth day of the tenth month will be magical. The whole class is invited to her party, including Chad, the cutest boy in the fifth grade. So is Darlenie-the-Meanie. Becky wants to look cute for her party, but all her plans soon go wrong. Really wrong. The magic of turning ten disappears before she even has a chance to blow out her birthday candles. Things get so bad, she refuses to go to her own party. Becky wonders if the Curse of the Double Digits will jinx her forever.

Melody is not like most people. She cannot walk or talk, but she has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced. She is smarter than most of the adults who try to diagnose her and smarter than her classmates in her integrated classroom - the very same classmates who dismiss her as mentally challenged because she cannot tell them otherwise. But Melody refuses to be defined by cerebral palsy.

Single dad Mac needs a temporary nanny for his daughter, Daisy. I need a second job until my promotion kicks in. It’s the perfect arrangement…until it isn’t. Because who can resist a dad buying ballerina tights after a day spent in a hard hat? Not me, that’s for sure. Now, Mac’s green eyes and Daisy’s crooked pigtails have me dreaming about a future I can’t give them.

Story
As befits a future President of the United States of America, Maggie Mayfield has decided to write a memoir of the past year of her life. And what a banner year it's been! During this period she's Student of the Month on a regular basis, an official shareholder of Coca-Cola stock, and defending Science Fair champion. Most importantly, though, this is the year Maggie has to pull up her bootstraps (the family motto) and finally learn why her cool-dude dad is in a wheelchair, no matter how scary that is.

Story
Joanna Gordon has been out and proud for years, but when her popular radio evangelist father remarries and decides to move all three of them from Atlanta to the more conservative Rome, Georgia, he asks Jo to do the impossible: to lie low for the rest of her senior year. And Jo reluctantly agrees. Although it is (mostly) much easier for Jo to fit in as a straight girl, things get complicated when she meets Mary Carlson, the oh-so-tempting sister of her new friend at school. But Jo couldn't possibly think of breaking her promise to her dad.

A fun story that is great for kids!
Would you listen to Curse of the Double Digits again? Why?
It was a fun, goofy and engaging story to listen to--it turned out to be absolutely perfect for a road trip! A good length, and fun enough to keep everyone alert! Definitely would listen again! The narrator did a superb job balancing lightheartedness necessary for a children's story, dynamic range and emotion suited to the plot, and a well articulated, upbeat tempo.

Curse of the Double Digits will make you laugh!
If you could sum up Curse of the Double Digits in three words, what would they be?
Silly
Friendship
Enjoyable
What other book might you compare Curse of the Double Digits to and why?
This book really reminds me of the 'Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day'.
Have you listened to any of Amanda Terman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Amanda Terman's voice is engaging and clear. I can't wait to listen to other performances by her.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
This book captures what it feels like to be ten and how ten year olds think. Kids can really relate to it and the narrator brought the characters to life.

Captivating
Would you listen to Curse of the Double Digits again? Why?
My 7 year old was intrigued by this story, and I'm sure she'll relate to it even more so as she gets older, so we'll be sure to listen again.
Who was your favorite character and why?
We empathized with and were hoping for things to turn out good for the main character from the beginning and throughout the story.
What does Amanda Terman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Amanda has such a clear, engaging rhetoric that it was a joy to listen.
Any additional comments?
My normally wiggly 7 year old was glued to her seat, listening intently for what will happen next. We talked about the story for the days to come.
