Publisher's summary

The inspiring profile brought to life in the major motion picture A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, starring Tom Hanks in theaters Thanksgiving, plus a collection of warm advice and encouragement from America’s favorite neighbor

Tom Junod’s Esquire profile of Fred Rogers, "Can You Say...Hero?", has been hailed as a classic of magazine writing. Now, his moving story of meeting and observing the beloved host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood is the inspiration for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, directed by Marielle Heller and written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

Here, Junod’s unforgettable piece appears for the first time in audiobook form alongside an inspiring collection of advice and encouragement from Mister Rogers himself. Covering topics like relationships, childhood, communication, parenthood, and more, Rogers' signature sayings and wise thoughts are included here. Pairing the definitive portrait of a national icon with his own instructions for living your best, kindest life, this audiobook is a timeless treasure for Mister Rogers fans.

It's a really easy read and enjoyable especially..

If you love Mr. Rogers, then you will love his words of wisdom. Everything made sense and did follow the events in the recent movie.

It’s a beautiful day in THIS neighborhood!

In the Times through which we are living, this is an amazing experience! Before the concepts of trauma-informed care, adverse childhood experiences and child-centered anything, this man was pioneering a concept of childhood “edutainment” that was so pure, so sparkling, so true. The Esquire article is a winner. The interspersed Rogers reading Rogers and Rogers read by a sensitive professional reading was a treat. As a pediatrician and mom, I am enthusiastic and appreciative. As a former child, I am tearful, grateful, and prayerful.

comforting

comforting. I sobbed during the movie and Tom Hanks nailed the role. I love Tom Hanks and I love Fred Rogers. I have cried so much today with the movie and the book and I bought every book he ever wrote, his other movie and a biography. thank God for this man. good book, comforting voice. ok gotta go cry again. it's a narrator but there is also a fair amount of actual Fred Rogers talking. it was a little confusing at first but the narrator is speaking as if he is Fred Rogers- for the first hour of the book I thought he was just some person with their own perspective.

Decent, but didn't care for the format.

Definitely had some good info, but had to listen in two sittings. Hard to keep focus on it.

Words of wisdom no matter your age.

Mr. Rogers is the hero and role model we should all seek to become. His words and compassion are timeless, even if so simple in concept. Even his messages about how to treat children are super relatable and relevant to those of us without children and can help to strengthen our bonds and communication with others, since we are all still children inside. This is a well delivered book and is worth a listen. Anyone who doesn’t get something from this, may not be ready to listen and grow.

Good ideas to ponder for parents or grandparents or anyone around children!

I enjoyed hearing the ideas in this book. It seems like there were hundreds of tidbits of wisdom offered by Mr. Rogers, always in a positive message, but require thinking on the listeners part as to how it relates to their particular situation. I determined I would need to order a paper copy and underline and write notes. I found myself wishing he expounded more on his ideas, but then realized that IS likely the idea. If we take the time to ponder it, we will be invested in it and may apply the idea. If he elaborated extensively, and did all the “work” for the us, it would likely go in “ one ear and out the other.”
