What did you love best about The Golden Goblet?

My 10 year old reluctant reader son loved this book. I thought the narrator was great and I was happy to listen along. My son was disappointed it wasn't part of a series. The added plus was that it was educational and got him excited about Ancient Egypt.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Golden Goblet?

There are many exciting moments -- enough that it was too absorbing to listen to at bedtime.

What does Charles Carroll bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excellent narrator for both children and adults to listen to. There are unfamiliar names and places in the book, due to its setting in Ancient Egypt, and I could imagine my son being frustrated with that if he had to read it without benefit of the audio. As it was, the names were handled so naturally it wasn't a barrier.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was a very uplifting book by the end.

Kinda rushed ending. Satisfying. Really nice dialog and world building for a kids book. Could have been written with a slightly more contemporary style to reach a slightly younger audience.

Quite good

It is not for kids under 11, there is a lot of fear, beatings and violence. Not too much action at the same time. It drags on a lot, but does have a storyline I wouldn’t recommend, but if you were into Egypt and Child mysteries, then try it. Overall, not the best book.

Good but not at the same time

We enjoyed this story very much. The author created characters we cared for and left us on the edge of our seats many times as the story progressed. Her descriptions of ancient Egypt were beautiful and compelling. At first we didn't care for how this was read but we got used to the narrator's voice and cadence the more we listened and then enjoyed it.

Beautifully Written
