About this listen

Special Agents for the Department of Diplomatic Security, Taylor MacAllister and Will Brandt have been partners and best friends for three years, but everything changed the night Taylor admitted the truth about his feelings for Will. But it's complicated...

Taylor agreed to a camping trip in the High Sierras - despite the fact that he hates camping - because Will wants a chance to save their partnership. But the trip is a disaster from the first, and things rapidly go from bad to worse when they find a crashed plane and a couple of million dollars in stolen money.

With a trio of murderous robbers trailing them, Will and Taylor are on dangerous ground, fighting for their partnership, their passion...and their lives.

Followed by Old Poison.

Hmm, the headline is a bit harsh but 50 characters don't leave much, so let me elaborate.

From the publishing date, I gather that this is an earlier work of the author (I may be wrong), and it seems to be that it lacks the strengths of other Lanyon books. While often the author's books are formulaic, the quality of the writing and the variety of styles (fantasy, Noir, espionage) provide the extra oomph for a 4th star. This one fell flat. The main characters have little personality, beyond being handsome. Their relationship is very superficially described, and the plot is thin.

The reading performance by Mr. Bisson is fine. It is not what detracted from the experience.

Not one if his best - Just ok

The story line to the book is pretty interesting. Although it seems like several facts are missing and i kept wondering to myself "is this a sequel to something else?" I checked though, Audible has it as 1st in a series so it might be right. It is a fairly good story though. I feel that if it were longer, it would have been a lot better. Don't let that keep you from listening to it though, it is still a good Josh Lanyon story.

The narrator really needs some work though.

Too short, but still fairly good

This is my favorite Lanyon series. Dangerous Ground is an excellent start to it. This is a thriller not a sleuthing mystery. There are thrills, chills, and bears, oh my! Will and Taylor are on a camping vacation from their jobs as Diplomatic Security Service agents. They are working on putting their professional relationship back on an even keel after some personal trauma. However, they come across a plane wreck connected to a casino heist and then the robbers. Excitement follows!

Adrian Bisson did an outstanding job narrating! I just loved Taylor's voice. He did a wonderful job on all the voices. His pacing, inflections and overall performance really made this audio book a excellent addition to my library. The Fanyons really picked a winner when they chose Mr. Bisson to narrate the series. I'm sure the pressure was enormous, but he hit it out of the park.

Wonderful!!

I like Josh Lanyon's mix of relationship and caper. The Adrien English series was adequately solid and I'm working my way through his stand-alone stories. The Dangerous Ground series is a collection of novellas with Dangerous Ground about 90 pages. It's $4.99 as an ebook, which is the max of the value of this standard story. I'd happily spend a few dollars more for a novel-length audiobook by him, but I'd stick with ebooks for these.

Good story, Too Short

This is a nice beginning to this series. I like both protags and the plot is tight and believable.

Lanyon's writing is excellent

Would you listen to Dangerous Ground again? Why?

I do listen to this series all the time. I seem to re-listen to my favorites in a bit of a cycle.

What other book might you compare Dangerous Ground to and why?

Probably the Cut and Run series with Ty and Zane.

What about Adrian Bisson’s performance did you like?

He does very well with the voices of Will and Taylor - they are distinct and likeable. Perfect for each character. Some of the side characters (in the series) don't come off too well (like Will's brother) but he captures the two MCs perfectly. (I just bought Point Blank and I'm interested in comparing the two narrators).

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I didn't have the time to do that but listen to it day after day when I had time.

Any additional comments?

Adrian Bisson is not my favorite narrator but I've heard the whole series and I think he did a fine job for the two leads.

Will and Taylor - a great combo

If you could sum up Dangerous Ground in three words, what would they be?

Fun, suspenseful, thrilling.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Taylor. He's a wild thing, a fiercely loyal friend, with a big heart and a wicked mind and sense of humor.

Have you listened to any of Adrian Bisson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time i'm listening to an audiobook narrated by Adrian Bisson. He does a great job!!! And i find his voice just perfect for the story.

If you could rename Dangerous Ground, what would you call it?

I would never! It's a very fitting title.

Any additional comments?

This is the first Will and Taylor adventure. They're out on a camping and hiking trip, trying to work through work-, friendship-, and possible-romance-related issues, trying to save their easy going partnership, when they stumble upon a mystery! Suddenly it's edge of seat suspense, peppered wonderfully with tender moments and humor.

Great story, great narration

I loved Taylor and Will the first time I read this book and my feelings haven't diminished. Their relationship as work partners is on shaky ground. Their romantic relationship hasn't even started yet. This is a well written and paced crime-solving story. There are bad guys, stolen money (and kisses), and bears. It was good to reconnect with my boys. The narrator, Adrian Bisson, was new to me, but I liked listening to him and he did a great job. I look forward to listening to more of his work.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story

You want action, mystery, and some romance? You got it with "Dangerous Ground". I was scared it would suck to be honest because it's so short, but it was a well rounded story. Adrian Bisson is an fantastic narrator, and I had no trouble differentiating the characters. Josh Lanyon books are more adventure and mystery than romance; so don't expect a whole lot. It's just enough to keep you happy, or on edge for the rest in the series.

Good start to a new series
