About this listen

Society crumbles after an EMP attack, and the terrifying nightmare has only just begun....

Three people from different walks of life each experience the end of America. Cassy is a 33-year-old prepper and single mother, away on business. Ethan is a hacker and conspiracy nut living underground. Frank is a family man out camping with friends and family. When a devastating EMP attack in the middle of the night destroys America's infrastructure, they are propelled on an unforgettable journey across an ocean of chaos to reach safety...Safety from an unknown invader and from once-fellow Americans now hungry and desperate. Dark New World is a prepper story of survival and the fight to retain humanity in the face of an apocalyptic event.

Fast Paced Post Apocalyptic Story

Would you listen to Dark New World, Book 1 again? Why?

This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is standard Kevin Pierce. He makes most of the PA genre books enjoyable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

You bet. Once the action starts you want to get to the end

Any additional comments?

Good Story....Little to much profanity for my taste but fast paced and well written

Great!... except I wish it were longer

You know a book is good when you wish it was longer. This book starts out presenting a few very different main characters, which makes for a very interesting book. And best of all, no zombies. Instead, the story is realistic in what might happen when an EMP hits. I look forward to the rest of this series.

Kevin Pierce is a favorite narrator of mine. You can't go wrong listening to him.

No bad but nothing new

just another story where an EMP strikes the country. and this time the survivors must leave the city to their homestead. the only difference this time there are multiple different perspectives from several groups of. survivors but if you seen one EMP story you've seen this one.

Perfect postapocalypic series I’ve read

I was hooked after the first book. This doesn’t happen with me that often, the book has to be really good to read the second third and forth.

It’s good

Just tired of all the survival stories leaving me TOTALLY depressed. Know I rather die than try to survive though raping, murdering and torture and any other horrible thing that can be done. Only to survive with the ability to live is destroyed becaUse the land and animaLs have been killed off that I don’t thing it can come back from it. I’m so depressed, was going to start prepping, but now wouldn’t was to be in a world thaT is now incapable the thrive-planet Earth is now unlivable with no hope. Will need something happy in between books. Will continue the series, definitely!

Kevin Pierce plus PA Disaster Equals Perfection

Before discovering the PA fiction genre, I always thought that you could overdose on disaster stories. But not when Kevin Pierce is the narrator. Kevin Pierce is his ever brilliant self, the voice of the PA world. In this series, we meet a different set of characters trying to navigate life after an EMP disaster. There's Cassie, Ethan, Amanda (Cassie's mother), and the others. Cassie is trying to get out of Philly, so the reader can only imagine how awful that would be. This series looks to be another excellent add to the ever expanding PA/ post-EMP world, that unfortunately is looking all too real in our current climate.

Great series

I feel bad that I've waited so long to review, but I couldn't stop listening to the series.
This is a great series, it is well thought out, the characters are believable & well thought out.
The story is entertaining & not predictable, best yet, the author seems to be very knowledgeable on what he is writing about.
I am currently on book 6, & am enjoying this series very much.

As always, Kevin Pierce is an excellent narrator! I always enjoy his work! He's an excellent story teller and does a great job with character voices! I love a good post apocalyptic or post disaster story. Looking forward to book 2!

After an EMP, it really is a Dark New World

An EMP has gone off and now power is out everywhere around them. Follow numerous people as they try to survive in this ever changing dark new world.

The narration was done by Kevin Pierce. This is the second prepper series that I’ve listened to that Pierce has narrated and I will reiterate that he has the perfect “prepper” type voice. Granted one of the main characters in Dark New World is a female, his voice still captures the prepper mentality really well and adds a lot to this novel.

There were definitely some scenes in this story that were incredibly realistic, I just feel that the timelines were a little shorter than one would expect. But, I’m an optimist. In Dark New World, things seem to fall apart much faster than I would expect. (Things started to go south within a day, I would probably expect 2-3 days before the “real” humanity would come out to play).

Not much is said about the enemy that these people are running away from and being engaged by, and I think that it’s left that way so that the reader can imagine any number of enemies that they want to. The EMP attack that starts this book off was really well explained and I think that some of the peoples reactions to it were also really spot on.

Part prepper and past post-apocalyptic (they kind of go hand-in-hand), Dark New World was an interesting read full of strong characters and what would happen to good and trusting people once society beings breaking down.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
