About this listen

A single dad leaves his daughter in the hands of a trusted relative. Now, both are missing.

Three years after his wife's death, Marcus reluctantly returns to the shark-tank world of dating. The evening has exceeded all expectations: interesting conversation with an attractive woman, excellent food, and first-rate wine. Life is good again. What Marcus doesn't know is that his nanny has just abducted his 11-year-old daughter...to Russia.

Marcus' live-in nanny is his ex-sister-in-law, a survivor of war crimes in her homeland Chechnya. Soon, Kamila's lingering trauma and desire for revenge will drive her along a path of deceit that threatens to shred the fabric of her family. Marcus and his longtime friend and newfound romantic interest, Stormy, pursue Kamila to Moscow, across the Russian countryside, and eventually into the heart of rebel territory controlled by Kamila's father.

Standing between Marcus and Alyssa are corrupt embassy staff, Chechen rebel fighters, and the Russian army. Will Marcus and Stormy find Alyssa before Kamila gives in to her darkest thoughts? What drives Kamila's deep-seated hatred of Marcus?

Unique fast paced thriller performed masterfully

Marcus's daughter gets kidnapped by his deceased wife's sister. He and his girlfriend Stormy stop at nothing to find her, starting with flying to Russia where they believe she was taken.

This was a unique and intriguing thriller. There was no single boring moment throughout the whole story with fast paced action and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Neal narrated expertly. From amazing energy and passion in his performance, to impeccable accents and intonation for various characters. I thoroughly enjoyed his delivery.

Overall, i highly recommend this excellently performed thriller that you wont be able to stop listening to!

Powerful story with a perfect ending

*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary, unbiased review.*

4.9/5

This story was incredible! I had the hardest time putting this down. Right from the beginning, we are thrown into a high-tension situation, and the action continues throughout the story. Even when the story goes into a lull, we get much needed backstory and character development from multiple characters (not just the MC). The premise of the story is powerful; having your daughter go missing hits hard and the twists and turns throughout keep you engaged wanting more. I would HIGHLY recommend this to just about anyone; especially suspense/thriller lovers. A+ read.

Hold on to your seat!

This is a roller coaster ride through Russia and Ukraine. I doubt if you will be able to hold your breath for long enough as this panicked dad looks for his 11 year old daughter, across terrain that is hard to scope. Darkness and destruction lurk around every corner as he fights his way through crooked CEO's, untrustworthy guides and enemy soldiers wherever he turns. Is there anybody he can trust? And if he can trust them, will they even survive, themselves?
This is a great story well told, with vivid descriptions and unexpected twists at nearly every page. I like Rykers style of writing as he describes the environment, which captures your imagination clearly, you might even feel the stray bullets whiz by as you try to find where the next enemy might be coming from.
A good, 'Die hard' fans story which I think, would make a great movie.
Character and story development is also a strong point for Ryker; there where characters I loved and others I despised. The kidnapper was unpredictable and pretty vicious (for a woman), but then when your mind has been messed up with certain enhancement drugs and a tragic upbringing, you can still relate to the why... only the why, has been taken to the extreme.
I listened to the audio book version of this and for the most part, the narrators interpretation was excellent, the only thing that bothered me about it was that his narration was peaked, too often and for too long. It was a constant aggressive read, which had many places it could have been 'softened' in. I think this would have improved the flow of the story better.

This book was given to me at my request, in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent Story!

A fast-paced thriller about a dad's search for his kidnapped daughter. Dark Sky Falling has something for every reader- suspense, romance, mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

I read and listened to the book. My only complaint is the audio version's performer portrays Marcus as very intense/overly angry. I didn't get the same impression when I read the book.

An edge of your seat thriller!!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was an intense, edge of your seat, thrill ride! A parents worst nightmare come true! Your child stolen.

What they went through to get her back was terrifying, and in this world has a realistic bite...

The ending was surprising and bittersweet. I enjoyed this one a great deal!

Narration was excellent and on point throughout!

I really don't know what to say about this book.

Dark Sky Falling.
This is the first of Richard Ryker I've read / listened to. Also my first for the narrator.

I don't know why but I liked this audiobook.
The story is not that gripping or fast paced, but there is something that keeps you reading.
It is a good read overall and the narration is clear and concise.
In summing up I would recommend this audiobook. And I would listen to more from the author and narrator in the future.

Just on ok story

This book had a lot of potential but the story fell a little short of my expectations. It felt like the second part of series and all the character development and backstory was missing. The book starts of light hearted with Marcus going on his first date since his wife's death and immediately turns sinister. The police not taking a missing child serious was a too far fetched for me but necessary for the story line, I feel like knowing more about Kamila and Marcus' relationship prior to the kidnapping of his daughter could have made the characters and story more believable. The book overall was ok it just felt a bit rushed to get the story told with minimal background on why Kamila behaves like she does and why Russia and Chechnya are so important to her. The narration was poor I had to keep rewinding because I couldn't tell when one person stopped talking and the next began. Having just finished a book by Richard Ryker that was great I was expecting a lot more from this story. I received this book for free for an honest review.
