About this listen

An epic tale of adventure and intrigue, Daughter of the Empire is fantasy of the highest order by two of the most talented writers in the field today.

Magic and murder engulf the realm of Kelewan. Fierce warlords ignite a bitter blood feud to enslave the empire of Tsuranuanni. While in the opulent Imperial courts, assassins and spy-master plot cunning and devious intrigues against the rightful heir. Now Mara, a young, untested Ruling lady, is called upon to lead her people in a heroic struggle for survival. But first she must rally an army of rebel warriors, form a pact with the alien cho-ja, and marry the son of a hated enemy. Only then can Mara face her most dangerous foe of all - in his own impregnable stronghold.

Excellent read for a wonderfull book

I discovered daughter of the empire a long time ago. And I have been waited for two years to get it on audible. This is a perfect read of the book. This is so great I absolutely recommend it.

Excellent beginnings

I was concerned, this is one of my all time favorite series. A well done performance of respect and reverence to a great story of intrigue and honor.

An Intricate World of old Japanese Politics

This book is one I encourage anyone interested in Japanese culture and/or old politics. This story is so well done in terms of connecting the readers with the main clan. There is a hint of fantasy elements, so if you're expecting a world of fantasy, you may be disappointed. This is all about a girl growing into a queen of her own worth. How clever she is is a treat to discover. Well done is the telling of this story, well done is the fantastic ending.

OH EM FING GEE

I heard good things about this book but it's not one of common series mentioned around fantasy book-tube. I was shocked when I got halfway through and already the palace intrigue, court politics, and scheming matched that of finale Daenerys chapters in Game of Thones/clash of kings. Must read if into that type of fantasy story.

Great story.

An excellent book. Great fantasy. I'm already downloading book two in the series. I got so engrossed listening that I missed my bus stop...worth it.

Slow start, brilliant end

This first book in the series of Mara has a lot of buildup for the main story. I found it a bit slow in the middle part. Really liked the ending, which was satisfying but also intrigued me enough to want to buy the next book.

Love Love Love

Been hoping for years this would become an audio book and the narrator did an excellent job! One of my favorite stories of all time.

Great series, disappointing narration

Always loved this series and was so excited to see it finally available on Audible. The narration is a big disappointment however, as this series is very Asian in feel and the narrator is British. Poor voices that all sound the same, as well as slow monotone speech patterns that make the story feel more dull than it is. Still a good listen.

I am glad I did not give up

This is a great book. The narrator struggles with the ? teleprompter ? in the beginning. She pauses too long and inflects portions of sentences in strange ways. She does a great job, only be beginning is rough. I am surprised that they didn't re-take the first chapter. If it bothers you, keep going, the problem goes away. Rodrigues is very good with dialog and character voices.
