About this listen

There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I've gotten what I came for.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

In Daughter of the Pirate King, debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a thrilling YA pirate tale.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Marisa Calin smoothly manages the romantic adventure with a rhythm and cadence that keep listeners alert and involved. ...Alosa is an attractive and complex character, and Calin gives her a strong confident tone. Listeners will certainly want to hear more of her adventures, so it's good news that a second audiobook is planned." -AudioFile

"Readers should rejoice, because we now have a lady Jack Sparrow on our hands! Daughter of the Pirate King kidnapped my interest from the first chapter and never let it go! It's a superior debut with a deeply entangled romance, a fearsome heroine not to be trifled with, a clever hero that you seriously want to trifle with, and a plot twist that makes a rollercoaster seem stable. With a cunning plot, robust writing, and complicated characters, any reader will enjoy being manipulated in Levenseller's capable hands. Definitely for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, fierce heroines, slow-burning romances, and adventures that can turn sour in the space of a gasp. Not for fans of complacent heroines, soothing plots, or those who don't speak sarcasm." -- Anna Banks, author of the New York Times Bestseller Of Triton

" Levenseller has created a formidable female character who can take care of herself as she makes some hard decisions. Hand to skilled readers seeking true adventure with swashbuckling, sword fighting, and a great problem-solving heroine." —School Library Journal

A GOOD, FAST-PACED PIRATE ADVENTURE

Would you consider the audio edition of Daughter of the Pirate King to be better than the print version?

Yes! I actually tried to read the end of the book in ebook format, but I missed the narrator so much that I just went back to the audiobook.

What other book might you compare Daughter of the Pirate King to and why?

Not a book, but it gave me the same feeling as Pirates of the Caribbean. It had a good mix of adventure and romance, and kept me excited throughout the whole story.

Any additional comments?

I'm a sucker for pirate adventures! If you are too, or if you like hunky romantic interests, you should pick this up!

A good story

I am not someone who typically enjoys romance but this was a good romance book. It had lots of action and adventure mixed in and the romance isn’t too cheesy. It also has a hint of magic which always makes everything better. The narrator uses an accent which is fitting for a pirate so she helps bring the story to life. So good and a very easy read 10/10.

A Pirate's Life for Me!

Why am I now just discovering hope amazing this book is?!?!?! I loved every minute of this! Alosa is a straight up badass and witty to boot. The romance was a little cringe worthy, but still good. I loved the plot and what but of action there was. This was just so good! I cannot wait for Daughter of the Siren Queen now!

Less About Pirates, More About Romance

This story follows Alosa, the daughter of a pirate king who's searching for the island of the Sirens and the sirens' treasure. In order to get to said island, three map pieces must by put together, but the map pieces were separated into the hands of three established pirate families. After the death of the patriarch of one of these families, Alosa is tasked with infiltrating the sons' pirate ship and returning with their map piece. This quickly turns into various forms of seduction along with a little magic.

I definitely liked this book, but it wasn't at all what I was expecting. There's definitely some pirating, but there's far more falling in love, denial of being in love, and faking being in love. The narrator gives a distinctive, perhaps Irish, voice to Alosa that makes you feel like the red-haired character has come to life. There was also a twist at the end that I didn't see coming, and I'm usually happy when that happens. #Unexpected #PiratesBooty #HintOfMagic #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes
