About this listen

When Dave Barry goes mano a mano with the Information Superhighway, it's guaranteed to be a rip-roaring adventure. This self-proclaimed computer geek and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist starts with the motto, "Never read the instructions," and slides from there into the world of hardware, software, Windows 95, and the critical issue of RAM ("the bottom line is, if you're a guy, you cannot have enough RAM"). He also shares the wisdom he's gained from forays into cyberspace, including how to use Internet shorthand to chat with total strangers who may be boring and stupid, and a wide selection of very unusual Web sites.©1996 by Dave Barry (P)1996 by Dove Audio, Inc. Disappointing and Dated

After enjoying other Dave Barry books immensely, I was primed to listen to this with pleasure but was disappointed instead. If you want to remember the days of DOS and all the archane commands, then this is the book for you. Because it was written just after Windows 95 came out and the Internet was just becoming a phenomenon, it was probably hilarious for a few years afterwards. Unfortunately it is about as relevant now as a repair manual for an IBM Selectric typewriter. Dave also attempts some "serious" dramatic writing that falls flat. I hope that some of his other books will restore the joy that I felt before.

VERY VERY FUNNY!!!

I really have no idea where the other review is coming from! I practically wrecked my car laughing so hard from this book!

What's always so refreshing about Dave Barry is that he always points out things that are so obviously and honestly ridiculous about life. He does the same thing with computers in this book. I mean I love how the guy can just come out of left field sometimes with a quip that leaves you laughing so much you're gasping for air...5 stars.

Outdated and tired

This book is irrelevant in 2007. So is Dave Barry.

Not what I expected

I have been a fan of Dave Barry's for a long time and have read and enjoyed his books and newspaper column. I could not get used to hearing Shadoe Stevens' voice and stopped listening after a few minutes. It just didn't sound right. I'll go back to reading his material myself.
