About this listen

A fungus of unknown origin permeated the Earth's atmosphere. It was discovered to be lethal to humans, but it was too late. Infection occurred on a global scale.

The fungus had a fantastical ability: reanimation of the dead.

A man with a natural resistance survived. Now, he's on a mission. A mission to burn away the dead and the fungus along with them.

I'm not usually a zombie book reader, but...

I'm not usually a zombie book reader, so I can't really compare the "plague" dispersal method to other books. But it seemed like an interesting concept and I just finished a book on mushrooms. The characters were not bad, but they felt a bit stereotypical to me. It let me guess the "twist" pretty early on. But I loved Jacob's dedication to killing everything.

Eric A. Shelman seems well-suited for the horror genre. His characters were distinct and interesting. Pacing was really good.

Fast, Fun with Lots of Twists and Turns

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Performance was wonderful and so was the story.

What did you like best about this story?

There were a lot of original and unexpected elements. The main character was in particular different and likable. The story was never dull and kept evolving. Great job on the part of the author.

What does Eric A. Shelman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voice of the main character made him feel more real to me.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed a few times for sure. No crying, but several anxious moments.

Any additional comments?

It is an excellent zombie book. It was a balancing act between original elements and familiar zombie fun. The story didn't follow any formula, it changed with time, keeping it fresh and new throughout.

Zombie apocalypse with a fungal twist

A traditional zombie apocalypse take. The twist is the fungal spore infection and spread method. Will satisfy anyone's tin hat conspiracy theory need as well. Secret societies, military mad scientists, religious nuts and more. Delivers on all these points. A new twist on a zombie thriller

I loved this book, it had everything that you could want in a book. It was very well written with an extremely likable protagonist. This book was really, exciting, and oh so very funny. It had super secret societies, crazy religious zealots, and oh so secret military agencies. In a word this book was fabulous!!!

Jacob and his Crowbar vs The Tainted

What did you love best about Deaders?

The initial thoughts of the cause was actually a pretty interesting idea.

What about Eric A. Shelman’s performance did you like?

This is the third book I have listened too with Eric Shelman as narrator and enjoyed all three narrations. I listen to a lot of Audible books and I would listen to a book narrated by Eric without any worry of a bad read by the narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Its a fairly short story (4hrs) so filled up my flight time perfectly.

Any additional comments?

First and Foremost- I was given a copy of this for a review.
Its an interesting listen and has some good ideas. I enjoyed the narrator and that helped a lot. The author did try to give a detailed story but it is kind of hard to get a lot of detail and action in 4 hrs. If you want a quick read then its not bad but I prefer a much more detailed and in-depth story with a main character I would be more comfortable with and could actually like in real life. I gave this 3 stars as it is not bad, just needs some cleaning up and a little better direction. The story line is about a man named Jacob whose best friend is a crowbar and his desire is to kill all the tainted for taking his family. He has problems with the military (because he is immune) and also a religious psyco who also wants to rid the world of the tainted. It has a twist on the cause of the zoms which I though was good but the cause does change near the end of the story. It does have a decent amount of action in it. The book does have a good pace to it and doesn't lag to much on slow scenes. My biggest negatives is that first Jacob is a little wacked out and that makes it hard to want to be part of the story. Second is the Military side of things has some problems with concept and how things work. And also when the book is going to also be narrated it is painful to listen to the narrator having to go "crunch, crunch, crunch" as the character walks across glass. Overall not to bad and I would really like to see what this Author could do in a 9 to 10 hr book and a couple of good Beta Readers.

Great Listen

the story was great and kept me interested. The narrator on the other hand was not the best. He was ok but lacked something. Just wasn't impressed with him. I will listen to other books, if there are any, in this series because the author did a great job. I think that's the only thing that saved it. The book was well written otherwise I would have stopped listening.

Deaders

A common zombie story laced with a fungus from space.I enjoyed this story though it seemed too fast and the characters seemed one dimensional.Jacob thinks everyone is dead or zombie. His only task is to burn them.He finds out that he isn't alone.Things could be worse, he finds out how.Eric A Shelman is a fine narrator.I was provided this book by the narrator, author or publisher.
