About this listen

A New York Times bestselling author and former Los Angeles Times reporter's account of a con artist and bigamist who resorts to murder to hide his double life.

David Miller had a dream job and a beautiful family. But one perfect life wasn't enough. So he pretended to be an attorney, then a CIA agent. And he secretly married another woman. He juggled it all quite well—until the day his two wives found out about each other. Miller groped for ways to hold on to his finances and reputation. But when he tried using a gun to silence his second wife, his carefully constructed façade of power and wealth exploded.

In Deadly Pretender, New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury dives into the tangled world of deceit, greed, and lust to reveal what drove a seemingly upright citizen to live a double life, and then, to commit the unthinkable.

Very different from authors usual style.

This story was very well developed and had excellent character development. It was very revealing of how you can get tangled up and get deceived. Satan is an angel of light.

Can’t put this book down.

Anything Karen Kingsbury writes is always suspenseful and difficult to separate you from the book. In other words, I’ve never experienced any other her books where I can put them down to live my life or even sleep for that matter. She just has a way of holding you captive.

Convincing narrative!

I was amazed with the excellent research conducted to tell this story. It is amazing to see how easy it is to believe lies.

Storyline

Didn’t care for the person reading. Storyline was alright don’t think I would use another credit for this if I had to do over.

How well someone can hide who they really are!

Painted a great picture! I would have believed him! Charisma isn’t everything but it surely can fool people.

5 Star Book

Fascinating story line to follow! The author did an amazing job of telling the story. It is hard to believe David Williams could be quite so absorbed in himself! Such the classic narcissist! Excellent book to listen to. The author wrote it in such a way that you could easily follow along and figure out the characters. Not always easy to do that in an audio book.
Very well written. My heart broke for both ladies and their families.

Deadly Pretender

This was one I started and not sure I wanted to continue with a mystery. So glad I did as it was very well written and kept me holding my breath for much of the latter part. Definitely recommend this different one written by Karen Kingsbury and Narrator, Karen Kane, very well done.

Good writing, poor understanding

Well written, well researched, but the author clearly doesn't understand narcissism or pathological lying.
