About this listen

Dear Bob and Sue is the story of our (Matt and Karen Smith's) journey to all 59 US National Parks. We wrote the book as a series of emails to our friends, Bob and Sue, in which we share our humorous and quirky observations. It is at times irreverent, unpredictable, and sarcastic, all in the spirit of humor. We describe a few of our experiences in each park but do not provide an exhaustive overview of each experience or park.

We use these events as the vehicle to deliver insights about our relationship. We did not intend for this book to be a travel guide nor a recommendation for how to visit all 59 of the US National Parks, although many listeners have said they've found it to be a useful guide. Rather, it is our story about how we did it.

fun stories about visiting the national parks

Fun stories about visiting the National Parks, but I found the format annoying. Worth reading either way though.

Enjoyable relaxing

A relaxing listen that gave me lots of laughs through the book. The banter between the couple reminds me of me and my husband on our parks trip. While not a “parks guide” I learned of a few places I’d like to visit.

This book was a refreshing break from the present nonsense of violence in the world. Thanks for the great listen!

It was OK.

This book was OK. It is all about beer and complaining. Some highlights if you have visited some national parks. It was ok. Nothing special

Dry and funny

It took me a while to warm up to this book, but before I knew it I was laughing out loud. As an avid hiker and lover of the national Park system, I found this book to be funny, inspirational, and informative.

Outstanding!!!

All the 'Dear Bob and Sue' books are fantastic. You'll learn a lot and laugh a lot (they have great, wry senses of humor, and their funny offhand remarks and playful jabs are sprinkled in among some of the more frustrating realities of such big adventures). These books are interesting, amusing, well-written and beautifully read. Warning, however... you may run through your credits at record pace, because this series of books is very more-ish!

Now, they just need to keep taking trips all the time to keep us all entertained...

Annoying narration

I couldn’t wait for this book to be finished. I thought the male narrator had an undertone that was negative, complaining and I couldn’t get past it. There was a lot of what was probably intended to be good-natured grousing, but to me it sounded like he was whining about his wife and other people they met. I wanted to hear some joy and awe from what had to
have been a fabulous odyssey.

Bob and Sue Missed Out

Matt and Karen are the perfect, normal couple. Visiting all of the national parks with them was entertaining. I was sad the book ended, but excited to hear that there will be more. As a Bonus the narration was wonderful. I could listen to Susan Ericksen read the phone book and David Colacci also did a wonderful job. Listen and enjoy the trips!

Ready for a road trip!

This was a great story to follow. Their relationship was relatable! Made me laugh out loud several times!!! It also peaked my curiosity to visit all the National Parks!
