About this listen

Two Brits, George and Mark, set off from New York City to explore the back roads of America. In this calamity-ridden travel tale, George sets out in true clichéd fashion to discover the real America.

Throw in plenty of run-ins with the police, rapidly dwindling finances, and Josephine - the worst car in the world - and you have all the ingredients for a classic American road trip. Will George and Mark make it all the way to California?

And then there is Rachel, George's girlfriend, left back in England. Would travelling to the United States without her turn out to be the stupidest decision he had ever made?

This book had me laughing out loud! The narrator did a really good job mostly, but there were some mispronounced word that I felt weren't because he is British. It was really as though he'd never seen the word before. I definitely recommend this audio book.

Funny and very entertaining book!

This book brought back memories of my winter solo 6 week camping trip across this country from RI to PA, on to MI, then across central US to NM. It was a wonderful experience traveling in the winter - less traffic and a lot less people. I lived in my new van, I outfitted it with everything I needed. I made this trip before cellphones - in 1994.

The US has incredible things to see, experience, and enjoy. I just hope those interested in discovering all that it has to offer will have the opportunity to enjoy it before it’s lost.

I highly recommend this book. The writer make feel and enjoy his wonderful experiences!

I highly recommend this Audible book. The story is a treasure of first hand experiences, many of which made me laugh out loud and sometimes made me feel as if I were there along on the trip. The narration is first rate. It felt like the author was talking to us personally. It all fit together perfectly. There are small towns mentioned that I’d like to find myself.

Delightfully fun!

I couldn't have loved this book more. It was an absolute joy to listen to.

I have listened to many travel books, mostly those of motorcycle travel, each of them have their own qualities about them and each their own level of "it was good but...". This book falls in with the few that do not come with that disclaimer. The story was well written, the narration was quite enjoyable and the accounts were well described. I'm a big fan of British humor, Mr. Mahood did well in broadcasting that in this book and it raised the enjoyment level for me all the same.

Despite all the noise that we hear from the media and social outlets at our disposal, it is nice to hear good words about America from someone who doesn't live here. He expressed his appreciation for what we have more so than many Americans do.

Each time I listen to a book like this it makes me yearn for a road trip. "Not Tonight Josephine" did nothing to quell that feeling and in fact inspired it more so. Thank you George. Thank you for visiting and seeing the beauty of America. I do hope you return someday, you missed so much more than you saw.

Hearing about the USA from a foreigners point of view was interesting. Chapter 38 continues to make me laugh! So much of the time we take our country, our hometown, and our local people for granted. I hope to find more stories like the one with Josephine!

Delightfully fun story
