About this listen

September 1909, and Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, have been invited to Lord Riddlethorpe’s country estate for a week of motor racing and parties. They both agree that it sounds like a perfectly charming holiday. But when one of the drivers dies in a crash during the very first race, they discover that what seemed like an uncharacteristic error in judgement may have a more sinister explanation...

Closer investigation reveals that the driver’s car was sabotaged - and the driver murdered. The local constabulary are quick to dismiss the case, but Flo and Lady Hardcastle are determined to find out just who has committed this dastardly act, and why.

As the pair begin to make enquiries of Lord Riddlethorpe’s servants and guests, it seems that, below stairs and above, there is more to this case than meets the eye. And, even in the quiet of the countryside, death is always just around the bend.

Another Fantastic Addition to the Series!

Another fantastic, charming, and witty book in the Lady Hardscastle series. I tried to savor it and listen slowly but it's hard to because I enjoy TE Kinsey' s writing so much. I highly recommend this series to all my friends.

Waiting Impatiently for the next installment!

We've come to love these characters. The writer has done an excellent job of creating characters who are intriguing, endearing, lovable and are full of depth. We especially love the clever banter between Lady Hardcastle and Armstrong, her Ladies maid. These stories are an absolute joy.

Treat yourself to a weekend adventure

Spend time with two clever ladies with unusual skills and intelligence and you’ll not regret it. The language, interests, and social strata contribute to a unique period piece balanced between restrictions of the era and the unique ‘independent’ lives of Lady Hardcastle and her indomitable lady’s maid Flo.
The secondary characters are memorable because of the focused descriptions. It is one of the few books I’ve read whose plot was a mystery.

The reader is exceptional. Her skills are such that I’d rather listen to the story than read it.

More, please!

I adore the premise, and it's so fun to read about people breaking stereotypes while using expected behavior to solve a case. Fun, fun! This is full of great banter and a lovely relationship between a Lady and "Lady's Maid" (in name only in this case). Written from the POV of Fran (the Lady's Maid) it puts me in mind of a female Sherlock & Watson without the strange dysfunction of Sherlock. Give it a try! You'll find yourself laughing out loud with the banter. The narrator is quite a good actress. High marks!

I can't get enough

I usually dislike short stories and it's characters like Lady Hardcastle and Flo that prove me right. These characters are so well developed and written, they need voluminous tomes (deserve). I picked the first one up to get me through a long day and I was grateful for this long day to hear and read the third one.

Delightful

Any additional comments?

While I knew who done it and even, generally, why, fairly early on, it doesn't matter at all. The story and the reader are both so delightful, I'll very likely listen to this one as well as the previous 2 books in the series again and again. I'm going to miss Armstrong, so I very much hope there are more books to come - I've grown so used to her excellent company on my very long daily commute that I even look forward to the drive.

I love these stories

The plot was slightly predictable on this one but I am also an avid mystery reader so I think those who aren't may enjoy the twist more. otherwise a lovely sequel. I am in love with these characters.
