About this listen

The doctors told him he had only a few months to live and there was nothing they could do. But death wasn't what scared T.J. Littlejohn; he had a wife and three children, and nothing to leave them but a tiny slice of East Texas prairie and a handful of cows. He needed money and he needed it fast. A wanted poster in the sheriff's office gave him the answer - he became a bounty hunter.©2003 Dusty Rhodes (P)2005 Books in Motion Action & Adventure Fiction Historical Fiction Romance Western Romance Westerns Bounty Hunter

Excellent Western

Have a box of tissue close by when you listen to this well written and narrated story. Gene Engene was the perfect choice to read this book.

With only months to live T.J. Littlejohn becomes a Bounty Hunter to provide for his family.

"Death Rides a Pale Horse" is continued in "Vengeance Is Mine" about T.J.'s son, Tad Littlejohn --- although both books can stand alone.

Death Rides a Pale Horse

Gene Engene does a good job narrating western stories. Dusty Rhodes writes a great western story. The hero is diagnosed with stomach cancer and has only a few months to live so he turns to bounty hunting to get enough money for his wife and children to survive on without him. The story winds around the family and local ranchers and town people which demonstrates the importance of community and family in times of tragedy. Lots of action keeps the story moving along.

A BIG Fan of Dusty Rhodes

Every Dusty Rhodes story is like reading a screenplay for Gunsmoke or Rawhide from the 60s. Yes, the characters are formula and the plots predictable and that is why I've read and loved every single one.

I recommend Man Hunter for any brand new Dusty fans.

good book

I very much enjoy this story I've listened to it multiple times and each time I still enjoy it. the only issue that I have with it is I really wish that they would put multiple people as multiple characters instead of having one person just read the story.

A MAN'S GOT TO DO, WHAT A MAN'S GOT TO DO

DYING IS FOREVER
This is a very sad story in a good way. This is the type of story that makes you appreciate your loved ones more than ever. Sometimes the story is AS COLD AS AN OUTHOUSE IN THE DEAD OF WINTER, since SOMETIMES A MAN HAS TO KILL TO MAKE IT SAFE FOR THE ONES HE LOVES. The characters are very well developed. Any book that has a fourteen year old boy who is MORE MAN, THAN MOST MEN has got to be good. T.J. LITTLE JOHN is always TOLERABLE and so is his family. The plot is predictable, but that is part of the reason I read westerns. Sometimes I want an easy read. I like a couple who MADE LOVE SLOW AND HONEY SWEET. I listened to much of this early in the morning since A MAN WHO AIN'T UP AND ABOUT AROUND SUNRISE, WON'T AMOUNT TO MUCH.

GENE EUGENE is probably the best part of this audible book. If you write a western and you want to set the mood, you can't do better than Gene.

DEATH RIDES A PALE HORSE

This is a sad and interesting also very good storyline. Dusty Rhodes is a great writer. Basically T.J. Little John finds out he has cancer. He needs money to leave for his family to live on. He turns to Bounty hunting to get some fast cash. I don't want to spoil this so I'll just say this is one of the best books I've read. There is a second book that goes with this it doesn't show as book two but it does continue this storyline. (Vengeance is mine). It is as good or better than this book. Same writer same narrator. But T.J. goes to Mexico looking for the Sanchez brothers. He meets a Mexican kid that's haven't a hard time and brings him back home with him (Lupa). Lupa plays a big part in the next book. As I said this book is good and sad. Gene Engene does an excellent book narrating this book. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.
