Publisher's summary

Trapped in a world where magic is powerful and dreams are real, Cole’s epic adventure continues in book four of the New York Times bestselling “fanciful, action-packed adventure” series (Publishers Weekly, starred review), from the author of the Fablehaven and Beyonders series.

Cole is about to face his biggest peril yet.

Since arriving in the Outskirts, Cole and his friends have fought monsters, challenged knights, and battled rampaging robots. But none of that has prepared them for Necronum.

In this haunting kingdom, it’s hard to tell the living from the dead, and secret pacts carry terrifying risks. Within Necronum lies the echolands, a waystation for the departed where the living seldom venture.

Still separated from his power, Cole must cross to the echolands and rely on his instincts to help rescue his friends. With enemies closing in, Cole risks losing everything to find the one thing that might save them.

Fantastic Series, Great Role Model

I have grown to love this creative fantasy series. In particular, Book 4 explores the power of will and determination as the deciding factor between strength and weakness. The main character is constantly tested to see where his true motivations lie, and his thought processes during these tests are exactly what I want my teenagers to hear and learn from.

Cole doesn't always make the wisest choices, but it's not out of laziness or lack of character, just inexperience and trusting the wrong people. He has to experience the calamitous effects of a particular decision, and spends most of the book trying to make things right.

I also enjoyed the author's vision of the echo world as a temporary, non-mortal transition place between life and death. The use of music as a guiding factor is also pretty ingenious.

Finally the narrator does a masterful job portraying many different characters, with their different dialects and personalities, in a way that almost makes you forget that just one person it's telling the story.

I love this series it kept me on edge

This book kept me on edge the entire time. I got anxiety over the characters surviving this particular book. I look forward to reading the next book "Time Jumpers". I hope they can defeat Nazeem.

Exhalent

I loved the book.
Cole is a great hero. He does not always make the correct decisions, and even though he beats himself up for this, he keeps going. There is a time he complains it is too hard, but he keeps going. So while he is not perfect, he is not disappointing.
something different happens to the power of each of the princesses, and what happens to Destiny’s power is completely appropriate. I do not want to give anything away. I will just say her power is rather wiled
This story is a little dark and creepy, but what else can be expected. Not only do they have to deal with dead people and people who can tell the future, but they have to go into the realm of the dead. So let’s put in a couple of bantering heroes to lighten things up.
You will also fine old friends as well as a couple you may not expect. Again no spoilers.
