About this listen

#1 New York Times best-selling author Brandon Mull returns to Fablehaven with a brand-new story starring the comedic satyrs, Newel and Doren, and their battle against a gorgon.

Satyrs Newel and Doren are maturing into more responsible citizens after helping put an end to the dragon rebellion. But the thought of growing out of adolescence has the two goatmen in crisis mode. If that isn’t enough to worry about, a few unlucky inhabitants of Fablehaven have been found petrified, turned to stone, including fellow satyrs. Could this new threat be the workings of a dangerous gorgon?

Newel and Doren become intrigued after an informant divulges information about a legendary Listening Doll—a talisman with the power to reveal the antidote for any magical malady—hidden somewhere in the Florida swamplands. If the mystical doll can solve any problem, maybe she has the answer of how to turn back the clock, so they won’t have to grow up.

Perhaps a trip to Florida is just what Newel and Doren need to get their mojo in time to win the annual Satyr Games. Two new challengers, Barrett and Hoff, are talking smack about dethroning Newel and Doren as perennial champions. And the new opponents have a smartphone!

Finding the Listening Doll and saving Fablehaven is important, sure. But Newel and Doren are also desperate for a smartphone of their own. Let the adventure and the games begin!

As Expected

A good continuation of a world we love. Not as long or complex as prior books but still a fun and enjoyable read.

my review

the lore was great but the pacing wasn't very good. it expanded on the universe greatly and fleshed out the main characters,

Beautifully narrated! Story too short

I really enjoyed most of this book. I love Newel and Doran! They’re such fun characters! I was a little disappointed by the length of the book. It was pretty short, and everything seemed to be resolved almost too easily. I also thought the resolution at the end was unsatisfying. It was just too easy. And the scene where the satyrs are basically in limbo felt very unnecessary and bizarre. The narrator did an excellent job! Though I didn’t like the way he made Tess sound, I thought everyone else was spot on.

plot issue possibly

In Dragon Watch Knox makes a comment about Seth and Kendra living at the preserve with Seth and Kendra’s other set of grandparents, the Sorensens. In those books it sounds like the grandparents they all have in common is the Larsens and not the Sorensens. This book starts out with Knox and Tess visiting their grandparents the Sorensens and the Larsens are with the other kids. It never before sounded like both sets of grandparents were common among them. I know that siblings from one family do sometimes marry siblings from another family but this is not how it originally sounded in Dragon Watch.

hmm...

I think this would make for a good start in continuing the fablehaven series there were a few parts that kind of were blan considering the past adventures Newl and Dorin have been on previously.

I'm looking forward to see if any more adventures follow this one. Newl and Dorin I'm sure we'll get itchy hooves to leave The preserve occasionally, especially with that new amulet in tow.

Side note, are Knox and Tess Sorensen's or Lawson's? I am a bit confused.

Accent Annoying

The reader accent is beyond annoying! If he said
Satyr as shatter one more time I’d scream!
