About this listen

It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the Retired Detectives disappears…

When movie producer Cody Ziegler goes missing from The Homestead’s Millionaires’ Row, his wife, retired actress Olivia, immediately claims there’s foul play afoot. A million-dollar ransom demand soon follows, with clear instructions not to involve the cops. In desperation she enlists the help of Moira, Rick, Philip and Lizzie, aka the Retired Detectives Club.

Racing against the clock, the four retirees set to work. Sure, Cody had enemies—there’s a disgruntled employee, a jilted film-maker and a hundred other people who know how much he’s worth. But when it emerges that Cody’s apparently perfect marriage isn’t what it seems, even Olivia isn’t above suspicion.

When Cody’s car turns up in a nearby lake with a shocking surprise inside, the case becomes even more complicated. But with Philip and Lizzie’s marriage on the rocks, and threatening notes sending Moira into a spin, the Retired Detectives Club risks falling apart before getting any closer to the truth.

Can Moira and the gang find Cody before it’s too late? Or will this case see them lose in more ways than one?

really enjoyed can't wait for the third

* might have spoilers*

loved the storyline, it was quite fun. I would like for a few of the retired Detectives to get P.I. licenses or at least one of them. If that's added to the next book it will totally help and make it awesome. I wouldn't mind them getting a couple more active detectives ( younger) that help support them solving crime ( absolutly don't want them to take the spotlight or the book series at all) because that would really help them solve crimes and be believable because anyone trying to solve crime would cultivate resources and tools to help them. I'd love for Rick to get a retired police dog to help them on stakeouts and stuff that would be really cool. I love that it's retired people who are as badass as my parents are really appeals to me ( I'm 33) and my parents are retired and I could totally see them being that wiley and awesome in another life.

cons :the relationship of Phillip and lizzy and the super super repetitive dislike from lizzy of phillip because of the lie he told and her obsessing over it while possibly understandable was talked to death was not as fun to listen to. Phillips obsession with himself being so awesome so smart so intuitive such a great detective.... blah blah never needing help except constant praise and hero worship from his wife like it's her job and how dare she not bow down and worship him at all times greated on my last nerve. I get that it helped set the story line but maybe just a little more stream lining because I almost didn't care if he made it.

Things are never what they seem!

I loved both books and the unexpected twists. I like the gradual unfolding of Moira’s story and the inner dialogue of each character. I like the tie-ins between books and cannot wait until book 3 to find out what happens next as the characters are starting to flesh out /develop more! I can’t wait to also see what other secrets unfold for Lizzie and Rick, as I’m sure they have back-stories, too! I’m glad Lizzy has forgiven Phil finally. Very enjoyable read! I also listened to the books via Audible. I actually like the first narrator a bit more than the 2nd narrator. The mispronunciations and accents got to me a bit but it wasn’t horrible. Enjoy!

Didn’t like narrator. Good story

The story was very good and went along with Book 1. The narrator was very bad when not reading as Moira.

Good mystery

Other than the narrator’s difficulty in doing an American accent, it’s a fun read. I like the senior sleuth angle.

Another Winner

Okay Lizzy is taking it a bit far, Phillip’s “lie” was not the end of the world and her refusing to even consider counseling to fix their issues is just immature, while not a fan of Phillip, he is starting to mature in this book and Lizzie is taking steps backward.

The team is hired by an aging actress to find her kidnapped much younger husband. With Moira still receiving threatening messages, Lizzie and Phillip’s marriage on the rocks and Rick doubting his ability to be an effective team member, it’s a race against time to save the victim and one of their own

So good to have people of some age to represent with regular problems that have the ability to work with a group of great detectives thanks to the author and narrators 🌹

Great Series

I’ve really enjoyed all three books in this series. The characters are compelling and believable. The narrator does a wonderful job.

solid story

I thought it was an engaging story line. I did get tired of the mention of Philip's bald pate. I thought the narrator was better this time around. thanks for the first book.
