About this listen

Brain surgeon and unlikely war hero, Ryan Brenan, has it all. A booming practice, a beautiful home in an idyllic setting, and a happy loving family. Then, the apparitions begin.

Subtle at first, but soon there's no doubt about it–he's seeing ghosts, spirits, and the undead. Of course, he could just be going nuts, cracking under the pressure of his constant exposure to death, mayhem, and tragedy. But he believes he has proof that the ghosts are very real, and that they are specifically haunting him.

We join Ryan as he tends to the sick and injured in his hospitals' trauma bays, intensive care units, and operating rooms, all the while seeking to understand why he has become a target of the dead. Will he break down? Will he lose all that is precious to him? Will he be drawn to the other side of the great divide?

The unique storyline, similar to the works of Blake Crouch and Jeff VanderMeer, is a chilling thrill ride, straddling the real world and that of the paranormal.

This riveting psychological thriller uniquely blends a detailed peek behind the curtains of modern day neurosurgery with a fantastical journey into the paranormal. Written by a highly experienced neurosurgeon who takes the listener on an immersive journey into the behind the scenes world of the operating room where few people have ever been.

What a great listen!

Really cool storyline and truly expert way of intertwining relatable, realistic aspects of burnout in healthcare with creative "is it real or in my head" paranormal interactions. Got goosebumps so many times I couldn't stop listening.

Riveting

The author tells the story of a skilled and caring neurosurgeon who has tremendous compassion for his patients. He paints a clear image of how the impact of sickness and death takes on him and his family. He does an amazing job of bringing his patients to life, his love for his family and how the mental toll of his job impacts everything he loves the most.

Really enjoyable overall

Lots of accurate details of the neurosurgical profession and the commitment to being a medical professional of that caliber. I did wish Ryan had stood up for himself as well with his wife and friends as he did for his patients.
The reader did nicely with lots of the medical terminology, but seem to struggle with some of the other ‘big’ words.

SUPURB!!

This book is riveting! You must listen. It’s an extraordinarily real look into the world of a neurosurgeon and shows the insanity and humanity of life. Not sure which is scarier, his reality or the ghosts that haunt him.

Great listen

I enjoyed the look into a surgeons lifestyle. The stories are realistic. The ghosts at first are also realistic, but as the story progresses as do the ghosts it’s a bit much. The ending provides no closure. That may be the point for a sequel set up.
