Publisher's summary

He'll give up everything for his immortal lover...except his humanity.

Leave a note and slip away to Paris alone, Adin thought. It'll prove to his vampire lover he doesn't need 24/7 supervision, Adin thought. Instead Adin lands in a surreal situation that isn't going to endear him to Donte - at all.

As he awaits an old foe, Ned Harwiche III, for a prearranged meeting, Adin is head butted, tossed into the back of a car...then gets the chance to acquire an artifact Harwiche had been bidding on.

Adin jumps at it, if only as payback for all the dirty tricks Harwiche has pulled over the years. To his horror the "artifact" turns out to be an adolescent boy named Bran.

Sickened, Adin vows to help the boy out, but like Donte - like a lot of the world Adin never knew existed - Bran isn't at all what he seems to be.

While Donte and Adin negotiate the meaning of the word forever, Bran is running out of time. Especially when tragedy and betrayal pit Adin's long-cherished beliefs against Donte's love.

Warning: Contains a gothed-up college professor armed with guyliner (which is a big problem when you're up against a little monster) and an old vampire who doesn't like his lover out of reach. Not that he can't administer discipline from afar.

Good middle book, but not as strong as the first.

In trilogies, the second book or movie often sees things going wonky. Things fall apart before they can be put back together in the third book. And that definitely happens in this book, right off the bat.

Adin has left Donte to travel and check out some writings for his business. It's not an actual break in their relationship, but it turns out that for much of this novel the two are separated by one thing or another. I love the addition of Bran and I also like the way Donte's enemy, Santos, is coming into the story more. Adin's complaining and his stubbornness seem higher in this book, and sometimes I felt like the flow of the story stalled. I still liked it a lot but it wasn't my favorite of the trilogy.

Awesome!

This is a fantastic book. The second in the series after Deep Desire and should not be a stand alone. Adin and Donte are wonderful together and the danger and the twists and turns in this story are crazy. I'm ready for book 3. The narrator really does a terrific job.

great second instalment

Did the story keep me engaged: yes .. this was a great second instalment to the series.
Was it entertaining: yes ... unexpected twist and entertaining new characters
Were there any parts I found annoying: no
Would I listen to it again. yes
Narrator comments: Caleb Dickenson is a great choice of narrator for this series, his deep voice and variety of accents are excellent. Good consistency of characters for books 1 and 2 - I had no problem distinguishing any of the characters.

Elementals and Imps oh my!

I can honestly say this was just as hot and exciting as the last! I can't wait to see what comes next in this sensual vampire adventure into the paranormal. The vocals were also amazing!

I loved this audio performance! The story was compelling, the narration terrific!

Honestly enjoyed the complexity the author wove into the characters. The stories about vampires lately seem to lack any insight into the condition of vampirism, instead glossing over that part. In that way the paranormal element of the story is overlooked. Z. A. Max field made it as important to the plot as it should be. My problem is that I won't find it easy to wait for the next audio book. But I simply must, because the story is so much more when heard from the mouth of Caleb Dickinson. This man knows his accents.

The deception is indeed deep

I was actually surprised by where the deception came from in this story and at the multiple levels. The machinations of this world are truly getting interesting. On to book 3.
