About this listen

Major Connor MacKinnon despises his commander, Lord William Wentworth, beyond all other men. Ordered to rescue Wentworth's niece after the Shawnee take her captive, he expects Lady Sarah Woodville to be every bit as contemptible as her uncle. Instead, he finds a brave and beautiful lass in desperate peril. But the only way to free Sarah is for Connor to defeat the Shawnee warrior who kidnapped her - and claim her himself.

Torn by tragedy from her sheltered life in London, Lady Sarah is unprepared for the harshness of the frontier - or for the attraction she feels toward Connor. When they reach civilization, however, it is she who must protect him. For if her uncle knew all that Connor had done to save her, he would surely kill him.

But the flames of passion, once kindled, are difficult to deny. As desire transforms into love, Connor will have to defy an empire to keep Sarah at his side.

Sorry this series is at an end.

This is the third book of the MacKinnon brothers series. I enjoyed these stories immensely. Pamela Claire is now one of my favorite romance authors and Kaleo Giffith is my second favorite narrator: second only to the wonderful Davina Porter.

This book tells the story of the youngest MacKinnon, Conner. Conner has been embroiled longer in the war (French and Indian War) than the other two brothers and has been most negatively affected by it. The author has presented us with a most uncommon character in this genre, in imperfect hero. It makes him more believable and my favorite character next to Joseph, the MacKinnon's Native American blood brother. I hate reviews that give away so much of the story, so just let me say that the union of our hero and heroine is one of the most unusual I have found in romance novels. An interesting twist.

I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction of Conner and Joseph in this book. Although Joseph plays an important part in all the books, we see more of him in this installment. It would be nice to see the series continue with Joseph's story. Okay, there's a spoiler, Joseph survives the war. No big surprise. That's why we read romance novels--happy endings reign! One thing I won't spoil is Wentworth's fate.....

I am guessing this series will lose something if you try to pick up anywhere but the beginning. The author does recap the two earlier books, but there is such history between the characters, that you will want to read from book one.

Good stuff!

Great author, great narrator.

Book 3 of the MacKinnon's Rangers series did not disappoint. Kaleo Griffith is a wonderful narrator. I had not heard him until this series. He brought the Mackinnons and the Rangers to life. Historically very interesting. I would like to make an observation here. Why do authors these days have to be so sexually explicit in their books? I would have given the story 5 stars if it had not been for the explicit sex.

Pamela Clare and Kaleo Griffith-Fabulous Team

I loved reading Defiant, written by the very talented Pamela Clare. Kaleo Griffith brought this story to life by giving voice to the characters in this and the other MacKinnon's Rangers books...Surrender and Untamed. Both Pamela and Kaleo are gifted artists. I've eagerly waiting for Defiant in audio and it exceeded my expectations. Bravo Kaleo, brava Pamela.

Baby Boy

Would you recommend Defiant to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, it was cute if you like American historical romance

Any additional comments?

I was stretching out and trying something new I am a 90% regency romance reader. I probably will not read another one of her book because it is not a regency romance, however, he is a very good writer. The story flowed well and character connections were well done.

In a word......Exceptional!

This series has taken me on a journey that I will not soon forget. All three books deliver heartwarming adventures filled with history, romance, and true life heartbreaks. The author develops characters that seem so real that many times I found myself feeling emotions I don't always feel from books. A few times I even laughed out loud.

Defiant is the third book of the Mackinnon's Rangers series and this book tells Connor's story. Without giving the plot away Connor meets Sarah in a extraordinary way and through frightening and suspenseful circumstances their love grows. It is a touching love story that no one should miss.

Although this is meant to be a trilogy, I've heard that there may be more books added to this series. I sincerely hope that this is true.

This book, as well as the whole series, is definitely worth the credits over and over again.

I'd give this series ten stars if I could

This was simply the most interesting, beautiful, and emotional series I've ever encountered. It was a historical piece chock full of great characters, fast paced action, and a brilliant weave of plot and places inside an enthralling study of the human spirit.

Kaleo Griffith gave a stunning "read", though it was much more a performance. His voice is divine while creating a multitude of identifiable male and female characters.

Thank you, Ms. Clare, for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Series is WAY better than I expected

Much to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I enjoyed the setting - very Last of the Mohicans - but with some very steamy romance and sex. The MacKinnon brothers are interesting characters - I found the oldest sexy, Morgan kinda boring, and Conner (in this book) extremely funny and charming. I cannot tell you how many times I laughed out loud in regards to some of his inner thoughts.
Since it was basically free - I cannot seriously say well worth the credit - but if I had to give up a credit for this book - I think I would. It's much more entertaining and engrossing than some of the "serious" novels I have listened to.
So give it a chance, start at book one and enjoy Ian, Morgan, Conner, Joseph and the Rangers.

I loved the narrator too - he really added to the books.

Narrator, Narrator, Narrator! Kaleo Griffith voice could bring a lady to swoon! Miss Pamela Clare, could we please have two more books; one for Joseph and one for William? Thank you both for writing and telling such a beautiful story!
