Publisher's summary

Julie Garwood's best-selling novels of the beloved Clayborne family began with this critically acclaimed masterpiece.

The Clayborne brothers were a rough gang of street urchins - until they found an abandoned baby girl in a New York City alley, named her Mary Rose, and headed to Blue Belle, Montana, to raise her to be a lady. They became a family - held together by loyalty and love, if not blood - when suddenly a stranger threatened to tear them apart.

Lord Harrison Stanford MacDonald brandished a six-shooter and a swagger, but he soon proved to be a gentleman to the core. The brothers taught him frontier survival, while Mary Rose touched his heart with a deep and desperate passion. But soon, a shattering secret would challenge everything Mary Rose believed about herself, her life, and her newfound love.

What a voice!

Would you listen to For the Roses again? Why?

Yes! Mikael did a wonderful job separating each character. Each one specified it's own personality. His brogue was remarkable for the character Harrison, and it was fun and engaging throughout the entire book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of For the Roses?

The first dinner scene. I loved how Harrison was able to notice how much he enjoyed himself sitting back and letting go with riveting and loud not to mention outlandish dinner conversation, and family controversy.

What does Mikael Naramore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Feeling. There was a lot of feeling within the book as he portrayed each character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! Unfortunately, life had to get in my way.

Fabulous Story!!!!!!!

I can't say enough about how thoroughly enjoyable a read this was. 4 orphan boys band together to raise this baby girl who was mysteriously abandoned. Each boy is different and unique, but they form a family that completely baffles the hero of the love story. I can't count the number of times I laughed out loud! It was corny at times but there were so many great stories within the story, you don't mind.

This was no typical historical romance. It was so much more. Rich with engaging characters and fun dialogue. It takes you from the streets of New York, to the Wilds of Montana, to the drawing rooms of London and back again to Montana. I read this story 20 years ago and realized that they just don't write books this good any longer.

If I could give it 10 stars, I would!

The audible version ROCKS!

I read this book many years ago, many times and fell in love with all of the characters. As soon as I finished one, I would purchase the next one in the series. Hearing the story was just as powerful as reading it. The narrator was very good.
What I love about this series, is the sensitivity Ms. Garwood exemplified as she wrote each story. As a person of color, I not only appreciated how she gave Adam such dignity but she did not shield the reader from the harsh realities of time period.
Well done! Now to listen to the next one in the ROSES series!!!

Loved the story. It is an extremely charming.

If you could sum up For the Roses in three words, what would they be?

Lovely, charming & historical

What other book might you compare For the Roses to and why?

Any of the early Julie Garwood Highland stories. They have a lot of history of the land, customs.

What three words best describe Mikael Naramore’s performance?

English fine, Highland Awful!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Loved how the boys became a family and decided to take care of Mary Rose. Loved how Mary Rose took care of Cora.

Any additional comments?

It's hard to listen to a male voice for female roles. I think I would have enjoyed listening to a lower voiced female as well as someone that had a better Highland accent. This narration of the Highland accent sometimes sounded French or Spanish. It just sounded odd.

I read this many times, the audible version is very good. The novelas of the brothers are also very good also. Worth the time to find them. I believe the first one is called "One Red Rose"

Excellent story

Scottish accent often sounded like a Slavic / Russian accent. Reminded me of Goose in cartoon movie Balto!
