About this listen

I work for Lucifer. Only, it's not as cool and satanic as it sounds.

The truth is, I'm an admin assistant who applied for a job that sounded kind of interesting and ended up working for the Community of Species Government. I'm the only human in the office, and basically I ride herd on a team of rambunctious shifters and demons.

I also spend a lot of time avoiding Gideon Bailey, the demon I had a one-night stand with right before I took this job. He hates me, and I really want to avoid being murdered. But I've been offered a promotion that will mean working with him, so we're both going to have to get over it.

Plus, people are going missing. Pregnant people. And the word is that someone is dabbling in genetic experimentation. Putting a stop to that is more important than the sexual tension Gideon and I have been ignoring...isn't it?

I loved it! (so did my husband)

I previously read the book on Kindle and absolutely loved it and wanted my husband to check out what I was laughing and crying about. He is not a big reader but agreed if I got the audio book he would listen to it, so I did and we sat together and listened to the entire thing in one day! He loved it said it was hilarious and very interesting. We are going to listen to the second one soon!

Hilarious and Hot!

This is the 1st book, I read by Louisa Masters and it is 💯 fantastic. It's funny, steamy hot, and the narrator Joel Leslie is my favorite.

Very modest heat but some good humor

I don't know why I added this book to my Audible library, or what compelled me to start to listen. It's far different from most of my stories, but different is good, too. There are a scant few and mildly sexy scenes (objectively speaking compared to my library), so don't buy this if that's primarily what you look for in a story. But the lack of heat did not detract from the overall great story weaving and establishment of this unique universe. Mostly, I enjoyed the frequent laugh out loud humor throughout. There's one scene where Sam is taken to a luncheon with his new work teammates, accidentally gets the equivalent of drunk, and hijinx ensue that was completely memorable.

What can I say about the narration other than wow. Normally I'm not all that impressed with single narration, but Joel Leslie was AMAZING. Probably nearly a dozen character voices distinct, with a nice array of accents. Well done!

Great Start to a Series!

I’ve lost track how many times I’ve listened to this book, and the entire series! I first decided to listen/read this book because Joel Leslie was narrating. He did an excellent job as always! He definitely made the characters come to life!
It was refreshing to see a different spin on the supernatural community in a modern setting. Sam may be the only human part of CSG, but he’s no push over! I laughed when he put Alister and the other hellhounds in their place! I don’t want to soil a lot about Sam, so I will just say he is special! He definitely went through a lot in his past and during this book. It was nice to see Sam and Gideon together! I usually don’t like the misunderstanding troupe moments but theirs was funny! I wish we got to see a little more of their romance, but I loved what we got in this book! It was cute to see how Gideon treated Sam nicely and was protective of him. This book, as well as the series, had me laughing and smiling! Also, I love that Sam’s little guilty purchase (I won’t spoil it) comes back to haunt him in the series!

Entertaining plot, romance, world, and narration!

Joel Leslie takes artistic liberties in giving various characters international accents even when the characters are not explicitly said to be foreign, but he makes it worth the work. He does a great job of doing believable accents that help differentiate the characters without being too gimmicky. The author’s world is enthralling and logical, the plot is complicated, and romance is well drawn out and developed — a slow burn.

A demon and his cat

Great story, Sam is looking for something new, he finds this great job opportunity and gets a real eye opener. He’s joined a great team with boundary issues and are overly emotional about everything. He gets a promotion and is working for The Lucifer and alongside someone he’s been trying to avoid for 5 years. A good time, looking forward to more. Joel Leslie is so perfect as Sam.

let us shift

A unique story.which looks at shifting from a different angle with intrigue and criminal intent added to the mix. There is also a lot of wit and humor here with almost a screwball comedy feel.
My sole complaint is with Joel Leslie's narration. Leslie sounds as though he is in a constant state of hysteria, yelling and narrating a mile a minute and shamelessly "Overacting ". At times when he narrates at a more normal pace he's OK but I don't like his voice or style and avoid books he narrates.

Rushed Ending, Fun Listen

First of all, this story was a very fun and entertaining listen. My favorite scene in the book has to do with out MC accidentally getting drunk in front of some very important people, and between Joel Leslie's superb performance and the authors humor I was laughing so hard that I had to stop what I was doing and wipe away tears. Leslie is a master at his craft, and continues to improve every time I hear a new performance from him. My biggest complaint with this book is that we go 90% of the story with a buildup of a possible relationship between the MC and another character, and then in the end the actual solidification of their romance is paraphrased in a few sentences like an afterthought. It was extremely disappointing and kind of left me feeling let down, truth be told. The pacing for the story was generally on point until the last few chapters when the ending was smooshed together haphazardly. I plan on finishing this series, and hopefully our author brings the next MCs romance to a more satisfying climax.
