Editorial reviews

Graham Masterton has been thrilling and terrifying his readers since 1976, when his best-selling novel The Manitou was published. Since then he has published almost 40 books of horror, which his fans devour voraciously. In the supernatural thriller Descendant, a vampire legend of the Romanian strigoi turns out to be a reality. This suspenseful novel about undying predators is performed by Garrick Hagon, whose voice - though perhaps not his Transylvanian accent - many listeners might recognize from Star Wars: A New Hope and Batman. Hagon reads frequently for the BBC and even operates his own audiobook production company, so he knows his way around a strong dramatic recording.

not quite what i expected

Pretty base story. Author throws in "shocking" plot twists that do nothing to add to the story. Read Dracula much better book. :)

Dull

I was a little skeptical at first, but I’m glad I kept listening it was really good! I enjoyed the reader as well! I will look for more of this author

Good Read

The narrator sounds strange, like he is drunk or something. Nobody is likeable here and the story lacks tension or compelling prose.

A disappointing read.

Some unnecessary sexual content that doesn't support the story, but I guess it's just because it was very male-gaze centric. The female characters seem undeveloped, almost twee, in the hands of the men.

The plot is quite well developed and the book is well written. It would be great if women weren't just one dimensional plot devices, though.

The end seems rushed and should have been developed a bit more.

Narrator is excellent at portraying characters' age as the time line jumps. He does make some interesting intonation choices, though.

Surprisingly fresh take on the vampire genre

I love vampire stories and this one surprised me at the end. Never thought it was going to end like that!

Well kept secret

the style & narrator were what kept ME involved here. the writing was a bit less than I felt it Could've been.
narrator just great. multiple characters & gave them a voice. tends to b a favorite of mine. I liked the entire length of the story. I just feel as if itd been this impressive, just the right thing could have made it truly amazing. just love ways of retelling of THIS EVIL FOE's struggle. I'm odd maybe but I feel awful for Vampires. they're all quite as sad as they had been alive. Thx

4.8 That's not a thing huh?
