About this listen

Superstitions only survive if people believe in them...

Renowned academic Dr Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen—until they arrive...

The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history, its stories. There is no friendliness from the locals, only wary looks and whispers. The villagers lock down their homes at sundown. A nameless fear stalks the streets...

Nobody will talk—nobody except one little girl. Her story strikes dread into the hearts of the newcomers. Three times you see him. Each night he comes closer...

That night, Ben and Chloe see a sinister figure watching them. He is the Creeper. He is the nameless fear in the night. Stories keep him alive. And nothing will keep him away...

The Creeper is a masterful tale of horror and suspense, by one of Ireland's most talented emerging authors.

First half is stronger than the second, IMO

I found the first half (maybe even 3/4) of the book pretty good... but I didn't care for the ending, and it just started feeling a little too... rinse and repeat the further it went.I preferred 'The Watchers'. Still, a decent enough horror novel.

Atmospheric and Eerie!!

Fantastic job ingratiating the characters, to their audience! Knowing who you truly root for, versus who you despise, and why, makes for a more immersive experience! Most importantly, truly imagining…what would you do…if it were truly you…in such a predicament!? The palpable fear, filth and desperation, were visceral, and enhanced by an adept narrator!

Really enjoyed this.

A very fascinating novel. Well written an easy to follow! Sometimes one of the characters can be a little annoying but I understand his thought process. Especially being the reader and knowing other things that he doesn't, otherwise it was good. I love the environment and the adventure and the spookiness of it all. I like being on the edge of my seat trying to figure out some mystery and what exactly is going on. Even up to the end I was still unsure about some things. I will say that there's something in the ending that I wasn't that happy about but it did end in a way that is realistic. So I can't be mad about that. It was quite a good book and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in horror and mystery.

AM Shine a unique voice

Came to this after the Watchers. I hear a lot of complaints about the ending and I too was disappointed in that element of the story, but for me it doesn't negate a wonderfully inventive and haunting tale. Shine is so good at creating characters and atmosphere. He's in my "I will read anything he writes" group at this point

Fantastically Frightening

The dread and fear I felt listening to this whole book was relentless. It is one of the best horror novels I have ever encountered! I only wish I could understand the origin story of the Creeper a bit better. I was confused about that, especially at the end. But it was still amazing! This could be a truly horrifying movie!

The Ending is…*Chef’s Kiss*

The characters are likable, the story line is unique, and to top it off it is full of suspense. I would totally recommend.

The Ending - WOW!

The story line grabs you from the start and keeps you hooked. Just when you think you’ve figured things out, it takes a turn that leaves you shocked

I did not see the ending coming! Highly recommend.

The ending..

Not a satisfying ending at all. I purchased this because I’d read A.M. Shine’s The Watchers. It had a better ending and overall story

Good. Not as Good as Others

I have no complaints about the narration. The book was interesting. I liked the ending. But I've read others by this author that were better. However, there is excellent descriptive language which I did love. It was good. Just not a favorite. Worth a read though.
