About this listen

I’ll keep her safe from everything…except myself.
I’m a billionaire mob boss with a thirst for power.
She’s a broken girl fleeing from a past she can’t escape.

We were never meant to be.
But fate wouldn’t take no for an answer.

A one-night-stand lit the fire.
An unexpected baby turned it into an inferno.

Now, we’re both trapped by the flames.
Trapped in this dance.
Trapped in the darkness.

She says she’s not afraid of me.

But the more she learns....

The more she realizes….

She should be.

Devil in a Suit is a 100k enemies-to-lovers mafia romance. It is Book One of the De Maggio Mafia Duet, but can definitely be listened to as a standalone!

terrible narrators

This is a good story but the male narrator might as well have been AI. He sounded nothing like the character. sounded too old and propper to be a mafia Don. No inflection, no tone shifts, nothing to show he isn't a robot. literally ruined the audiobook for me.

3.5 STAR ENJOYABLE

It’s so difficult to write a review when there were parts of the story you thought predictable, a bit unbelievable and with many of the usual plot themes being thrown in. Instant attraction, enemies-lovers, protection never used but omg oops accidental pregnancy, a pussy distracted Mafia boss and secrets held predictably too late to be told. However and despite all that, I still enjoyed Carlo and Hazel’s tricky road to each other as the De Maggio Don’s damaged walls slowly come tumbling down by a caring red-headed Teacher who drives him crazy. It’s not without its push n pull and whiplash of emotions though.. and the Irish Mafia is much closer and more disruptive to their health and happiness than they think. There’s angst, drama, passion, sizzles, violence, secrets, great secondary characters and Mafia mayhem and suspense as the good narration draws you into their train-wreck of a journey.

Worth a credit? Are there more intense, darker, deeper, sexier Mafia books out there? IMO, yes.. nevertheless, I still enjoyed this listen so I’m going to say yes creditworthy. It’s definitely a stand-alone and, again IMO, shouldn’t have been billed as a Duet as it ends with a HEA.. the next book is their grown up son’s story.
