About this listen

It's the first look on my wedding day.
I turn...but my husband isn't there.
Instead, I see the stranger who ruined my life.

Here's the story:
Six years ago, I was on the worst first date in history.
A blind date with some jerk who wouldn't take no for an answer.
The handsome stranger swooped in.
Saved me.
And sat down to finish the date.

I thought it was crazy.
But we had insane chemistry.
We got to talking, one thing led to another, we ended up in the restaurant bathroom, and...
You know.

I got pregnant.
He disappeared.
Life: ruined.

I tried to move on.
For six years, I thought I succeeded.
But now, out of nowhere, he's back—on my wedding day, of all days.
Saying things that don't make any sense.

"Your fiancé isn't who you thought he was...

I'm not letting you marry him...."

And, worst of all...

"You're marrying me instead."

Velvet Devil is book one of the Vorobev Bratva duet. Isaak and Cami’s story will conclude in book two, Velvet Angel.

Cami and Isaac

Overall, I enjoyed this book. However, I found Cami really annoying. I like how she and her sister had buzz words to use if they suspected someone was listening to their conversation. Isaac saw right through that. He was a hard@ss who was taught by his father to be that way to take over. But occasionally a gentler side of him would show through. Isaac's mother was something else. Makes you wonder how she dealt with the life for all of those years. I am looking forward to the final book in the duet to see how this concludes. I feel that this book was longer than it needed to be. Lilly Drake and Xander Marceaux did a great job with the narration. Xander is fast becoming one of my favorite male narrators.

good but slow

This book starts slow and tedious, and the woman in it is so Frustrated when it comes to the secret that she has that she keeps from her one night. Stand, and it's frustrating even though she is fully attracted to him. And she has a big secret that she has to tell him and knows when she tells her the big secret. Nothing happens. It kind of cuts off a cliff, and you have to go to the second book 😩🤨

I thoroughly loved this book

Well paced. Believable characters. Engaging stories. I cannot wait for the second book. I think it will be suitable sequel.

Ugh.

These 2 deserve each other. I know that plots wouldn’t exist if everyone behaved themselves, but there were never two bigger pie holes than Isaak & Camilla. I wish I’d paid attention that this was a duet. I would never have bought it because I can’t imagine putting myself through another 12 hours of torture.

I love mafia romance but

I love mafia romance. When the guy is a generally a “douche” but would protect his family and his woman til his last breath. This missed the mark for me. He had strong loyalty towards the mafia but seems heartless, like he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. I kept listening hoping it would get better. But he would have very very SMALL moments of being kind followed by a complete 180 and would try his best to beat her down and hurt her. By the end of the book I hated him more then I did in the beginning. I was really hoping I would like this book because it started off really good. But the more it went on, the more I disliked it.

The Main Female Character is Pathetic! 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’ve read previous reviews that couldn’t stand the main male character but it was the complete opposite for me. She was irritating, ignorant, impulsive and irresponsible. Her careless behavior lead to her getting pregnant by a mafia don after a one night stand. She neglects her daughter and enters into protective custody for over five years. I found it comical the emotional phone calls that were suppose to make up for her lack of parenting skills. After being kidnapped by the same mafia don, she tries to throw her weight around by acting like a defiant child and when that isn’t successful she just uses her body. SMH 🤦🏽‍♀️ BUT she still fails lol It’s utterly pathetic. Her borderline bipolar behavior almost made me give up on this book. One minute she is aggressively making love and the next she is crying and feeling sorry for herself 🤷🏽‍♀️ I can’t stand reading about weak woman that are easily manipulated by powerful men. I heard the second book is better but I’m going to save my credits for mafia romances that have empowered and intelligent female characters. This one is just pitiful 😏
