About this listen

Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea...

Police Chief Delaney Reed is good at keeping secrets for the beach town of Ordinary Oregon - just ask the vacationing gods or supernatural creatures who live there.

But with the first annual Cake and Skate fundraiser coming up, the only secret Delaney really wants to know is how to stop the unseasonable rain storms. When all the god powers are stolen, a vampire is murdered, and her childhood crush turns out to be keeping deadly secrets of his own, rainy days are the least of her worries.

Hunting a murderer, outsmarting a know-it-all god, and uncovering an ancient vampire’s terrifying past isn’t how she planned to spend her summer. But then again, neither is falling back in love with the one man she should never trust.

Performed by Colleen Delany, Henry Kramer, Karen Novack, Michael Glenn, Richard Rohan, Amanda Forstrom, Chris Genebach, Tia Shearer, Tony Nam, Bruce Alan Rauscher, Nick DePinto, Holly Vagley, Jonathon Church, Paul Reisman, Ren Kasey, Ken Jackson, Dani Stoller, Joe Mallon, Eric Messner, Michael John Casey, Tim Carlin, Steve Wannall, Lise Bruneau, Mort Shelby, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Andy Brownstein, Alejandro Ruiz, David Zitney, Scott McCormick.

I enjoyed the fact that the story is evolving, but there were certain things that I think should have been done differently. I did enjoyed all the characters' banter enormously, and the book was a lot of fun. Continuing to the next book.

The plot thickens, and the story gets more complic

I wish this book was not so short. need more. now I'm writing enough words to meet the fifteen word limit.

pretty amazing

Love all the characters and the narrators. This book had me in a roller coaster of emotions. Someone took the gods powers. The MMC is working for a secret organization. A war between the wolfs and vampires might break out. And the cliffhanger, hoping them can find who was taken.

2nd Book Amazing!!

The story reveals a lot of secrets everyone is holding. The adaptation is fun because everyone has a real voice.

Even better

I preferred the first book in the series better the format used for the second book. I found the background noise made it difficult to hear the characters. I’m 59 with tinnitus, Also the voice of Ryder Bailey didn’t fit the character for me. The voice sounded a little bit to light in the loafers.

To much background noise

These are fun little listens that are unique and unexpected. Granted, when listening, you could probably guess what might happen next, but that really doesn't take away from the story too much. If you're looking for smut, this is not the place! Once again, Graphic Audio could've done better with the music and sound effects, but it doesn't take away too much from the book/experience.

Overall Fun!

I really like the performance, the little noises like eating or slurping don't bother me, I actually enjoy them. There are times when the music is too loud, like during a pivotal scene, I get the music was added for the tension but it was way too loud and overpowered the actors. What bothers me the most is Delaney and Ryder. Ryder is a dick who thinks he can flirt his way out of everything and Delaney who was pretty good in the first book has now become some obsessed chick who is ruled by her lady parts. She's in denial bad, I haven't finished the book but so far, she keeps defending Ryder even when evidence suggests otherwise and she share private confidential evidence with said suspect. She plays his games for no reason when she is law enforcement. It's so annoying I had to make a review. Update: So I finally finished and I still don't like Delaney or Ryder. I understand why there is a lack of confidence in her from other characters because she sucks as a normal police chief let alone a supernatural one, If I continued the series it would be for all the other characters like her sisters, Crow, Mithra, Old Rosi (my favorite). There are so many inconsistencies and then it ends on a cliff hanger, all around it felt like this made the series go down in quality.

I really like the world

I’ve read these books in the past and enjoyed them but the story is ruined in the audio version by all the background noise. People talking with their mouth full, slurping their drinks, tinny irrelevant music playing in the background. Ugh. So annoying. I wanted to listen to the whole series but it doesn’t look like I have a choice of choosing just the regular audiobooks on some of the books. Sorry Devon.

I hate graphic audio

In general, I enjoyed it. Despite two annoying characters and some confusing rules in this universe, the performances are still top notch, and story was ok. Seriously dislike the Ryder character. I liked Delaney in first book but my respect for her goes way down in this one. She turned into a drooling schoolgirl obsessed with the jerk, letting him get away with everything, defending him, and letting him have a degree of control while doing her job. Every time she has a heartwarming or "aww" moment from something he does or says... just... ugh.

Good but 2 annoying characters
