About this listen

The final book in the USA Today best-selling Neely Kate Mystery series.

Violet Gardner Beauregard is barely cold in her grave, but she’s still stirring up trouble. When Neely Kate Coulson accompanies her best friend, Rose, to Violet’s attorney for the reading of the will, they get the shock of their lives, one that leaves them both reeling.

If that weren’t enough, special prosecutor Mason Devereaux is still calling witnesses for his grand jury, digging into the corruption in Fenton County. Neely Kate is approached by an unexpected source who reveals shocking news from the grand jury testimony - information about her wayward husband, Ronnie Coulson. And just as all the dust starts flying, Kate Simmons sashays back into town. Kate presents an opportunity Neely Kate finds hard to resist - the chance to find out why a Dallas crime syndicate wants the bag of money Neely Kate took from a man she’d killed in self-defense years ago.

With Kate involved, there’s a catch. Kate will only tell her what she wants to know if Neely Kate leaves town with her. Immediately.

Can Neely Kate afford to take the risk? Can she afford not to?

So sad how the family keeps loosing members. I wasn’t going to read/listen to the Carly Moore series, but this story made me want to dive in once I finish Rose Gardner Investigations.

Tears…

I've been waiting for the audio book to be released and it did NOT disappoint. It was every bit as good as I thought it would be, in fact better. As soon as I downloaded it, I immediately started listening and I didn't stop until I finished it. I can't hardly wait to get my hands on the next book in line, oh and the new Carly Moore series that's coming out too!

Loved it!

I loved this installment of Neely Kate’s story where she once again tries unsuccessfully to keep her painful past in the rearview mirror and live a happy life. This book was full of excitement, danger, and sweetness. It was just so hard to put down. Neely Kate’s friends’ lives are messy - Rose’s sister has just died, Joe is claiming to be the father of her baby, and Violet’s will stirs up trouble. Meanwhile Neely Kate learns something shocking about her missing husband, Ronnie, and her criminally insane half-sister Kate is back promising answers. So Kate and Neely Kate embark on a roadtrip driven by Kate’s crazy. The book was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, exciting action, danger, family drama, painful pasts, mystery, plot twists, imperfect characters, missteps, and all the big feels. I am looking forward to reading what happens next in Neely Kate’s life. 4.5 stars.

Shannon McManus once again did a phenomenal job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

A crazy roadtrip
