About this listen

Janet Evanovich, the “most popular mystery writer alive” (The New York Times), is in top form as she sends Stephanie Plum on the trail of a stolen stash of dirty diamonds in this instant #1 New York Times bestseller.

Stephanie Plum, Trenton’s hardest working, most underappreciated bounty hunter, is offered an assignment that seems simple enough. Local jeweler Martin Rabner wants her to locate his former security guard, Andy Manley (a.k.a. Nutsy), who he is convinced stole a fortune in diamonds from his safe. Stephanie is also looking for another troubled man, Duncan Dugan, a fugitive from justice arrested for robbing the same jewelry store on the same day.

With her boyfriend Morelli away in Miami on police business, Stephanie is taking care of Bob, Morelli’s giant orange dog who will devour anything, from Stephanie’s stray donuts to the upholstery in her car. Morelli’s absence also means the inscrutable, irresistible security expert Ranger is front and center in Stephanie’s life when things inevitably go sideways. And he seems determined to stay there.

To complicate matters, her best friend is convinced she is being stalked by a mythological demon hell-bent on relieving her of her wardrobe. An overnight stakeout with Stephanie’s mother and Grandma Mazur reveals three generations of women with nerves of steel and driving skills worthy of NASCAR champions.

As the body count rises and witnesses start to disappear, it won’t be easy for Stephanie to keep herself clean when everyone else is playing dirty. It’s a good thing Stephanie isn’t afraid of getting a little dirty, too in this “uproarious, crazy, laugh-a-minute caper” (Booklist, starred review).

Critic reviews

"Lorelei King, who has become the voice of Stephanie Plum, will delight fans in this 30th addition to the series. King masterfully performs the quirky crew surrounding bounty hunter Stephanie, including familiar and new characters. The plot, filled with laugh-out-loud moments, follows Stephanie and her sidekick, Lula, as they track down a colorful collection of felons. Their pursuits take them to Maine and back. The regular characters all make appearances, as do endless donuts and exploding cars. King shines in her ability to differentiate male and female characters, especially the indomitable Lula. Whatever the plot, the true joy for fans lies in spending time with Evanovich's beloved characters, vividly brought to life in King's narration." (AudioFile)

A fun ride!

It’s another great adventure with Stephanie Plum. Several twists in this story I didn’t see coming. Lots of Bob too.

Happy 30

It is 30 but unlike the end of a news story it sounds like it may just be starting—- not ending

Always a good time

The thing I love about Stephanie is her books are a true escape. They hit some tough subjects but are so well balanced with humor and crazy characters. Some of them are just this side of ridiculous and it’s the perfect quirk that keeps me coming back for more. I never fail to laugh out loud while listening and I am
Alway eager to see what is going to get blown up because in Stephanie’s world it’s always a go win. And let’s not forget all the “babe”s

Lorelei King was one of the first narrators I ever listened to and I love her as much now and I did when I first heard her. She does great with characters and giving them personality. Her voice is smooth and perfect for storytelling.

Finally growth!

I love that finally Stephanie is capable of dealing with a lot of situations on her own! Of course we loved having Ranger coming to rescue her, but it’s nice to see it wasn’t really necessary this time. She is growing and learning. Out of the last few books this is by far my favorite. I only hope she makes a choice and it’s the right one. Team Babe all the way!
