About this listen

The acclaimed debut thriller from the internationally bestselling author of The Liar’s Girl and 56 Days

The day Adam Dunne’s girlfriend, Sarah, fails to return from a Barcelona business trip, his perfect life begins to fall apart. Days later, the arrival of her passport and a note that reads “I’m sorry—S” sets off real alarm bells. He vows to do whatever it takes to find her.

Adam is puzzled when he connects Sarah to a cruise ship called the Celebrate - and to a woman, Estelle, who disappeared from the same ship in eerily similar circumstances almost exactly a year before.

To get answers, Adam must confront some difficult truths about his relationship with Sarah. He must do things of which he never thought himself capable. And he must try to outwit a predator who seems to have found the perfect hunting ground.

The idea for this story was pretty cool. The writing was okay, not fantastic. The characters were annoying and some felt entirely unnecessary. The main character Adam was a bit of an idiot and naive beyond belief. His emotions were a little forced and tried to ‘guide’ the reader way too often. The end of the novel was a let down. The beginning was decent with a good build up, but after about 1/3rd it started to get frustrating and a little dull.

Cool concept, mediocre execution

Great plot twist - nothing wasted in furtherance of the story. A decent listen that goes by quickly

So many twists! Completely engrossed and misled. It’s fun to be surprised by a book. I listened to this with great hunger. I thought about it when I wasn’t listening. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. Great performances by everyone!!

Thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'm happy I gave this book a second listen before canceling. Great dramatic narration of a drawn out story line. Finally came together about 1/2 way through. Anxious to try the 2nd book.

Great narration!
Triple POV in different timelines.
Cruise ship/disappearance.
Nature vs. nurture.

The narration really made this story shine for me. The setting of a cruise ship is nit one I liked.

The MC is an everyday-man from Cork.
A struggling writer.
I didn’t really like him—nothing wrong with him save for 10 years of inertia, which isn’t attractive.

Good mystery.

The narration makes this!!

Started slow for me. Almost stopped listening after third chapter. Glad didn't. Good story.

A true page turner. Mystery/Thrillers are often really predictable, but not this one. I did not see what was coming until the protagonist figured it out. I couldn’t put it down.

Excellent Read!

Bronson Pinchot did a great job reading for Roman. Really enjoyable listen. Plot twists galore.
