About this listen

"The 22nd installment in the Andy Carpenter series is just as delightful and entertaining as the first, thanks in large part to Grover Gardner's narration." -AudioFile Magazine

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his golden retriever, Tara, work to free a man who risked it all to help a dog in need

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie, enjoy walking their dogs, Tara and Sebastian. By this point in their marriage, it’s routine. When out for one of their strolls, their simple ritual isn’t so simple anymore. Across the street, a man is mistreating his dog. Three things happen at once: Andy yells, Laurie runs to stop the abuse, and so does a closer passerby, who so thoroughly beats the owner that both are arrested when the cops arrive.

Andy scoops up the dog and takes him to the Tara Foundation, the dog rescue organization that’s always been his true passion. Meanwhile, at the police station, the passerby is identified as Matthew Jantzen, and he’s wanted for murder. Andy and Laurie are struck by the fact that Jantzen, a man on the run, would nevertheless intervene to help a dog, and decide to find out more.

Dog Eat Dog, the twenty-second installment in the Andy Carpenter series, features the charming cast of characters - old and new - that David Rosenfelt is known for and the dogs that accompany them.

I've read or listened to all of David Rosenfelt's books, and I loved every one of them. His sense of humor often makes me laugh out loud, and his usual characters are all so enjoyable to reunite with in each new book. Mr. Rosenfelt has such a gift for making each book's mystery new and unpredictable right up to the end. I particularly love that even though he's a dog lover and savior in every book, unlike most stories that include a dog, his Golden Retriever Tara never dies. A man after my own heart! And Grover Gardner is perfect as the narrator. I'm looking forward to more Andy Carpenter books!

I’d pretty much sworn off reading any more Andy Carpenter novels. I found them increasingly boring, repetitive and far-fetched. A good friend recommended this book — and boy I’m glad I read it! There is the same cast of characters of course; Andy is Andy; Marcus is Marcus — and then there are dogs, of course. But the plot kept me engaged and guessing right up to the end. This is one of the best Andy Carpenter books I’ve ever read. And it’s read by the incomparable Grover Gardner. What’s not to like? Grab this book by the tail; you won’t be sorry.

One of the best in breed

Excellent. Change of pace. Usual half-way through extreme scenario emerges. And of course, dogs!

This might be the funniest yet!
