Publisher's summary

A new marriage. A perfect home. A machine that says it’s all a lie. Welcome to Silicon Valley, where the weather is perfect, the income is high … and Rowena Snyder is miserable. A transplant from New York, Rowena moved into her husband Jacob’s idyllic childhood home with their new baby. But suburbia isn’t Rowena’s cup of Starbucks. And she’s got serious anxiety and depression to boot. Jacob, worried about their marriage, scores a new product currently in beta testing from his tech job: Maxine, a “digital friend” that bonds with an individual by continually gathering their personal data. Along with functioning like an upscale digital assistant, Maxine has “advice” and “prediction” modes that have shown promise for patients with mental health issues. To Rowena’s shock, the device turns out to be not just helpful, but eerily accurate, predicting events before they occur. It’s a godsend until Maxine offers a series of increasingly bone-chilling predictions that will change Rowena’s life forever. This domestic suspense novel set in a near-future dystopia asks, who do you trust more—your mind, your man, or your machine?

Kept me listening all the way through!

I enjoyed this book and it had twists i didn't see coming. But i was disappointed towards the end . It had the potential to go in many great directions and for me it fizzled out.

I had so much hope but it was bad

I saw a tik tok review and was super excited to read this book but was super disappointed. I love the voice of the narrator and the way the story started but it just took a turn that was bad and made the sorry just awful. The random hints at things never came together so therefore were pointless. Not a good book

Psychological thriller perfection

I loved this book so much. I listened to it in the car to and from school rides with my 12-year-old son, and while there were a couple times I had to tell him earmuffs, we both still LOVED this book. It was twisted and kept us guessing. We both have some theories that may or may not have been true, the ending left room for several of them to be true. Which we liked. We can’t wait to listen to the next near-future book by Faith Gardner.

My first audiobook and I’m glad I chose it

I can’t say I had anything I disliked. I went in with low expectations and was extremely surprised. I didn’t see where the story was going, it was a new fun story line, and I had a hard time pausing between chapters. It was so interesting. I’ll suggest those that like books like gone girl.

Loved it

A little predictable in some parts, but overall an amazing story. The end was a little weird, but I like weird

Just not good

I felt like the author was trying to drive ME crazy with the choices the main character made. If you’re up for 9 hours of experiencing a terrible marriage second hand, and 1 hour interspersed with action and intrigue, I guess this might be for you.

twisty

Great story and writing. Had me wondering of I was crazy too, second guessing every character.

Great plot!

First, the narrator was really good. Her Maxine voice sounded just like Alexa. The story took a crazy turn ! Very enjoyable! Well done, Faith Gardner

Entertained but not blown away

If I could I’d give this 3,5 stars.

This book kept me entertained. It is very well read, I liked the narrator and her way of keeping me interested in the story.

The story was a little cliche but it had a twist. All in all I liked this and feel it was indeed worth a credit, but I don’t think I’ll read it again.

Truly entertaining and mysterious

Very well written book. Struggles of a mother and wife. Family life filled of twisted half truths that bring us to question the life we really live. Narrated very well.
