About this listen

“Chilling psychological acuity…Part of the fun is figuring out how everything ties together in the end.”—New York Times Book Review

“Absolutely splendid storytelling, a book to entertain, to immerse, and to challenge.”—A. J. Finn, New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window

Bestselling author Wendy Walker returns with a new dark, twisty, and highly addictive psychological thriller about a cold case detective who finds herself the target of an obsessed stalker after saving his life.

Detective Elise Sutton is a forensics expert with a knack for solving cold cases and a deep knowledge of the criminal mind. She prides herself on being rational and in control, until a crisis at a department store leaves her steeped in guilt and self-doubt about whether she did the right thing to save a man’s life.

Elise is hailed as a hero, but she doesn’t feel like one. She soon grows numb, even to her husband and daughters, as she sets out to find the one man who might know the truth. When she finds him—or did he find her?—their connection sets off a terrifying game of cat and mouse, threatening Elise and the people she loves most.

Wendy Walker has crafted a brilliantly complicated, absorbing, and tension-filled psychological thriller with a shocking final twist that rivals The Woman in the Window and The Silent Patient.

Highly recommend! Fascinating story, great character development, I loved getting in their heads. Nice plot twists!
The Audible version is great too, helped my commute into work something I looked forward to! ❤️

I’m slightly conflicted on a rating of this book. There were parts that held my on the edge of my seat and others that profusely bored me. Overall it is a good story with interesting characters. Maybe better editing would have helped.

Overall Good

“What Remains” captures the other side of the story. The story of the female detective shopping for pink towels in a shopping mall. She is ultimately faced with a choice. Shoot the crazed shooter or not. She shoots. What happens next is a glimpse into what we don’t see. The detective’s emotional trauma, the aftermath and the extremely twisty plot regarding the tall man who witnessed everything. Pay close attention because I did get lost a few times.

Twisty-Pay Attention

Really enjoyed the plot and journey on this one. The characters were well written and intelligent. Some of the lamenting could go on for a bit but overall it was a great read.

Another A+ read!

This book started off ok then it got super boring I only made it half way through it, I’m disappointed because
I usually enjoy her writing style.

Boring storyline

If you have read one of these 'chick mysteries ' you've read them all. Suburban Mom, middle class life. Hunky dad and adorable kids. Bad guy with psychological issues. Been there, done that.

very meh

I loved this story. Different from the usual same o-same -o books I've been listening to. It grips from the start and doesn't let go. Narration was fabulous as well. I highly recommend.

Couldn't put it down.

This story was not the caliber of other Wendy Walker books. The plot was shaky, and the two narrator perspectives disjointed.

Not as good as the Audible Plus titles by this author

Starts out as one story and becomes a completely different one. Definitely had me yelling outloud at the main character sometimes. Great read!

So good!
