Publisher's summary

In Don't Tell Anyone You're Reading This, Dr. Lina AbuJamra gives a refreshing and honest look at what it’s like to struggle with sexual temptation and shame and how the Church can better support Christians and communities in these challenging and often avoided topics.

Are you wondering why you picked up this book? Don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me. Maybe you’re like me—a good person living a decent life, making a living and working hard. You go to church on Sundays and pray before your meals. But you have a secret, a hidden part of your life that you’d be ashamed for anyone to find out about.

I get it. I really do. I have secrets too. The thing with secrets is that they eventually come out.

Instead of hiding, let’s have a difficult conversation, a real talk about secrets and shame and sex and a lot of things in between. Difficult conversations don’t have to be difficult, but they do have to be honest.

In Don’t Tell Anyone You’re Reading This, Lina shares her own struggle with sexual temptation with openness and vulnerability. She points out where the church and purity culture have failed our communities. Lina gets real about the excuses we make and the lies we tell ourselves even when our behaviors point to a larger problem.

This is a no-holds-barred discussion on why Christians still struggle with sexual sin and what the church needs to be doing to support Christians and the community at large. Most importantly, you’ll see that despite our constant failures as humans, Jesus doesn’t ask us to be perfect. He just asks us to be His.

If you’re going to have a difficult conversation, you might as well have it with a doctor.

Two Majors Errors

Lina was very brave discussing “the elephant in the living room of the church.”
She perpetuated the error that the church has always taught, that “fornication is sex before marriage”. The Greek word is “pornea”, so this should horrify all married men AND women engaging in that which is first on the list of those not going to heaven (1 Cor 6:9).
Second is “lust”. The Hebrew word also means desire, covet (10th Commandment) and pleasant to the eyes, all thing that men desperately need to practice with their wives (as lovers).
Porn is bad. and it took Gary Wilson, an atheist, to proclaim the harm it does in our brains. Jack Piggot, a non-Christian teenager, declared “porn is bad” (out of the mouth of babes).
The silence from the church is DEAFENING. I believe Lena‘s book may change things and crack this discussion wide open, especially in the Church.

Listened twice!

Listened once on my own. Then listened with my fiancé. He wanted to hear what Lina had to say. Thank you, for sharing your heart, transparency, truth, and honesty.

He felt she was ranting about the church. We talked about it afterwards. He said this brought up more questions than solutions. I love that we will have more to discuss and share about what Lina wrote about.

We need to wrestle with questions left in this book.
Thought provoking book.
Thank you, Lina.

Boredom and adventure

loved the vulnerability and honesty in the book and it is a great example of the Humility we need to help others. It also gives us insight and Grace into why people who really love Jesus and want to live Holy can fall back into sin. I never correlated my continuous backslide with boredom and Hustle, but now I can see it has to do a lot with it.
The book is extremely encouraging and gives Hope how to fight our battles with Sin, while still having compassion for others and their failures as well. We are all broken People who need Jesus.

Lina is someone I am in awe of her accomplishments and drive and her love for God's word and gift to teach.. So I am thankful for her Humility to write this book that can be such an encouragement to so many other people! We live in a world of Hustle that tells us it will satisfy us but for some of us who stay on this Hamster wheel thinking if I just strive harder.. it is an encouragement to see someone who has accomplished so much still struggle, I know the answer is not in discipline and myself...it is in Jesus!

Honest about not having the Answers

Honest testimony encouraging Christians to to be honest about their sexual struggles and really create safe spaces for people to feel the love of Jesus. Doesn’t try to give an easy 123 step program to fix anyone but a honest conversation.

I am encouraged, and sharing this with others

A direct, long overdue, much needed, transparent and grace – filled look at the real sexual struggles that we experience. I am so encouraged after listening to this book. I love this audiobook! I will be sharing it with my college aged kids. We need to be better equipped at talking about these true struggles, for our own Deliverance from shame, and to be in a position to love other Christians well, and in all things, point them to the Lord Jesus. My favorite book of Lina’s so far! Thank you for telling your story!
