About this listen

When Robert Randall encounters a teenager during a blizzard, he quickly learns that her strangeness is only a foreshadowing of her impact on his life. Within minutes of meeting Kira, Robert is forced to kill, something he had sworn to never do again. With her pursuers hounding their every move, Robert must escort Kira through the endless doors that connect the universes, all the while trying to get back to Kira's dimension and rescue her mother from her captors.

Overall, I thought the story was interesting. There were times where it was a little hard to follow the timelines. I think part of the issue was the narrator. He seemed to only have one voice for any female character. I don't regret the time listening to it, but think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it.

Good book. Narrator could be better.

Loved the ideas of this story and the execution was well done. Characters were well developed and you kept learning about them till the end.
Would love to hear more.

Jim Rogers has a deep gravelly voice that by itself adds to the story. Unfortunately in this case it greatly aged the main character. It took me quite some time to figure out that the main character was in his 30's to early 40's mostly because that voice sounded so much older. I think he would make a great narrator but was not the best fit for this story. At the same time, that voice truly added to this story.

Overall I would recommend this story to anyone looking for a fast paced adventure with an ex-military man and a young girl as the main characters.

This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I loved this book! A loner writer who lost his wife recently saves a girl from a guy and finds himself in the middle of a mess of a life time. Parallel worlds, doppelgangers, people trying to kill him and steal the kid, and he finds people dying around him. Full of intrigue, adventure, sci-fi, and action. A fast paced book that keeps you jumping from world to world, awesomeness!
The narrator is absolutely perfect for this book. He goes from a deep gruff voice to a delicate girl's voice, lol. He keeps all the voices straight and there are plenty. Great job. He really helps the book! It made it more interesting than just me reading it. He made it more like a movie.

Parallel worlds, doppelgangers, awesomeness!!!

Very good book in gender. Funny situations with all the doppelgängers. I hope you enjoy as much as I did. I received this audible book for free. If I was supposed to give my honest review, that is exactly what I did.

Terrific read

"I was provided this audio book at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBoom dot com".

I can’t recall if I started this book three or four times before I was able to make it past the first chapter. But this afternoon, whilst watching the snow fall, it finally caught my interest and took me from world to world.

I really enjoyed the characters, the plot, the world(s) building, and the storytelling. The narrator did a fabulous job with this book!

The multi-universe was explained in bite sized morsels as the book progressed.

It was enjoyable and broke my cabin fever and frustration about how my unplowed road threw my plans off.

A pleasant surprise and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a taste of a subtler sci fi adventure.

Something that bothered me at the beginning of this book is that we did not have any real reference as to when the story was set. After a while I understood it could be present time or near future. When that was clear I started enjoying the book. The characters were interesting and real enough to care for them, and the alternate realities, although not an original premise, was quite well done to attract my attention. It was an entertaining book, full of adventures, twists, and some surprises.

I found some of the things predictable, but that did not make me enjoy the book less. What I didn’t like so much was the damsel in distress role that almost all women have in this story. Robert Randall is there to save the day, but it seems the only reason to make him capable is that he is a man. There was also some flirting with several female characters, totally unnecessary for the plot.

My biggest problem with this audiobook was Jim Rogers’ narration. Not only his performance, but also the election of this particular narrator. By his voice, I imagined Robert to be an old man, which was not true. Also, the female characters sounded all the same, and there were some of them. There were also many mispronounced words, and for some reason the ‘d’ at the end of most words sounded like an ‘l’, which was quite distracting.

All in all, it was an enjoyable book, and one that I would recommend.

The book starts with the main character having a conversation with a guy whom we don't find out about until much later in the book. Then enters the girl through a doorway. The only problem I have with the story is that the main character easily kills the guys chasing the girl. He claims to not want to but, he seems to do it without much thought to if that is the correct action and without much remorse or concern for repercussions.
I enjoyed the storyline and the idea of how the doors worked was a new idea. Not far into the book, I had the ending figured out but, I enjoyed the bit of uncertainty that I was correct. Even if I found it a bit predictable this was still a good listen.

The narrator has a limited capacity to do adult female voices. At one point two women have a conversation and they sound same- bit awkward to listen to. When the stories action ramps up, like when the main character was being attacked or doing the attacking, the narrator sounded like an overamped sports announcer. When the action calmed down, he'd abruptly put on the brakes and go back to his usual cadence. During these segments, the audio quality changed a bit too so, it accentuated his sports announcerness. This style was not to my liking. He did the male voices well however.

I would not object to listening to another book by this narrator.
I look forward to reading/ listening to another book by this author.

This was definitely a good book. The narration wasn't the best, but not so much that it killed the experience for me. It was an interesting premise and had lots of action and some humor mixed in. Definitely worth the credit.

Great stand alone sci-fi/fantasy story
