Publisher's summary

Kit Gordy sees Blackwood Hall towering over black iron gates, and she can't help thinking, This place is evil. The imposing mansion sends a shiver of fear through her. But Kit settles into a routine, trying to ignore the rumors that the highly exclusive boarding school is haunted. Then her classmates begin to show extraordinary and unknown talents. The strange dreams, the voices, the lost letters to family and friends, all become overshadowed by the magic around them.

When Kit and her friends realize that Blackwood isn't what it claims to be, it might be too late.

Scary and enthralling

A favorite of mine from childhood. I didn’t really like the modernizations made, but other than that, it’s a great and suspenseful story. Lois Duncan wrote many books that I’ve re-read probably around 10 times each - what a talent she is.

Gripping!

I wasn't sure at first... it took a few chapters to really hook me, but after that it was great! Very suspenseful!

Down a Dark Hall

This is the kind of book I would have loved as a young reader. The ghosts, possession, wicked adults, and drama would have had me reading into the night. I recommend this book for kiddos 10 and up who like spooky reads.

Great story... poor ending. very unsatisfying

We were on the edge of our seats towards the end but then the story was over with so many unanswered questions. disappointing ending... needs and ending.

Entertaining!

Great story line and Emma Galvin’s performance was amazing! Can’t wait for the movie to come out (even though I know they changed the story line A LOT!)

A fun read

This was a fun and easy read/listen. Overall I enjoyed the story and the performace. I wish the story has been a little longer, I felt as if I didn't get closure about all the characters by the end of the story.
