About this listen

From the legendary New York Times best-selling author of Flowers in the Attic and My Sweet Audrina (now Lifetime movies) comes the first book in the Casteel Family series - for fans of Emma Donoghue (Room) and Kay Hooper (Amanda).

Of all the folks on the mountain, the Casteel children are the lowest. Even the families that buy them think so.

Heaven Leigh Casteel may be the prettiest, smartest girl in the backwoods, but her cruel father and weary stepmother work her like a mule. For the sake of her brother Tom and the other little ones, Heaven clings to the hope that someday she can show the world they are worthy of love and respect.

But when the children’s stepmother can’t take it anymore and abandons the family, Heaven’s father hatches a scheme that will alter her young life forever. Being sold to a strange couple is just the beginning; ripping away the thin veneer of civilization and learning the adult secrets of the world around her means Heaven must abandon someone, too - the child she was, to become the woman her mother never had the chance to be.

Heart wrenching

I first read this book some 25 years ago, I cried then as a teen, as an adult listening to ths book and now fully understanding the situations these characters went through made me cry ten times harder. V.C. Andrews was a talented storyteller with the ability to draw you in and make you feel as though the struggles and darkness of her characters were your own.

VC Andrews never disappoints

absolutely love this book! If you like VC Andrews, this book will surely not disappoint. True to the nature of her other books this book was an emotional roller coaster with moments of sadness and despair along with happiness, and at times very mixed emotions. definitely keeping the reader interested till the very end and eager to read the next book!

One of the best

I've always loved the older V.C. Andrew's books, and Heaven has always been a favorite. It's an emotional and gripping read.

VC Andrews is the Best!!

How does this author keep coming up with these plots. This one makes you feel the pain of these children. This book reminded me of the Flowers in the Attic books but it is different and I couldn't stop listening!!!!

The narrator is incredible. She has different voices for each character and they each sound like a totally different person speaking. And she never messes up and accidentally uses the wrong voice. I'm stuck on this reader.

This series is worth a listen.

Haunting Story

A very haunting story. Containing true suffering of the poor. Well written. Well read. As good as the book I read years ago. I enjoyed the narration. I’m glad the narrator didn’t over do it with the accent of this region that the story is sat in. I definitely will listen again.

Great Book!

I have been waiting so long for this book series to come on audible. I loved the book when I first read it and love it now. The narrator did a perfect job narrating. I highly recommend this book and hoping more early V. C. Andrews books come on audible.

Good story

Love the story since the first time I read it. My only issue was the narrator. She was way to twangy. I u understand the story is in the country but her voice was hard to listen to.
