About this listen

Return to the enchanting world of Pern in the conclusion of Anne McCaffrey’s bestselling Harper Hall Trilogy.

Dragondrums is the spellbinding tale of Piemur, a mischievous young singer who makes an incredible journey to the dark, uncharted realms of Pern. Piemur’s remarkable singing voice has earned him an honored place in Harper Hall, the home of the world’s master musicians. When his voice suddenly changes, he fears his time among the Harpers has ended. But the Masterharper has a special assignment for the singer. On a daring mission to the mysterious Southern Continent, Piemur searches for the secrets of the Old-timers—and his own role in Harper Hall’s future.

Anne McCaffrey’s wondrous tales of Pern, with all their colorful dragons and fascinating characters, are classics of fantasy literature. With millions of fans around the world, the Harper Hall Trilogy has become one of this century’s most popular fantasy sagas—and a tribute to the power of imaginative storytelling.

I've been a fan of this trilogy since I was a kid and the narrator made my audio experience that much better

This book was a very good way to round out the three-book series. I was pleasantly surprised that it focused on a different character than the previous books and provided some insight to prepare the reader for The White Dragon.

Well done.

I really enjoy listening to Sally Darling's performances of Anne McCaffrey's novels. She uses her voice to delineate between the characters, thus adding depth and charm to hear narration.

I wish I could live there! Being a dragon rider or a Harper or a crafter! Awesome!

I loved this series while growing up. I had signed copies, but alas they got destroyed between being read a lot and moving from place to place while I was in the military.

Brings back memories!

Often I find that the opinion I have as a child has not changed. The opinion I had then of this book was simply that it was a nice story, but now I like it so much more. Perhaps it is because I am now able to pick up on some of the nuances of the tale, or perhaps it is because of the narration, in truth I'm not sure why. Pimer's story, although published out of sequence, fills in some gaps left in the White Dragon. The more I relive the saga of Pern, the more I find myself drawn deeper into that world just like in my childhood.

A Nice Story Made Better

Some time has passed between the first two books in the harper hall triolgy and this one. We still see Menolly but in this book it transfers more to Piemer and his storyline. You really get to see that being a harper isn't just about playing music and singing.
