About this listen

Get all four books in the Oberon Academy series!

The Orphan: In a world where dark faeries have stepped in to save the planet from humanity's mistakes, seventeen-year-old December Thorne is nothing but a shadow. Offered a scholarship to the prestigious Oberon Academy, December finds herself living in a whole new world.

The Zephyr: After a tragic loss, Crispin Jonas took over the role of mentor, pushing December to practice things beyond the standard Oberon Academy lessons on being a good Sylphid. She could let her darker half take over and guide her actions, or she could embrace the Sylphid inside her and live on the path of light. But were those her only two choices?

The Sylph: After surviving another face-off with Queen Sebille and discovering the truth about her past, December Thorne's life has changed dramatically. She finally has what she's always wanted . . . or does she?

The Queen: After so many surprises and truths revealed, December just wants her life to settle down into some sort of normalcy. When one of her own is taken by the Zephyr queen, December must take action. The time for normalcy is over. It's time for war.

The story itself was really predictable and feels a bit like “Fate-The Wynx Saga.” The characters were not truly believable and do not grow or develop that much over the series. Individually, though, each book is enjoyable for a nice escape if you just want fluff and can take it at face value for enjoyment. Performance is underwhelming, the reader portrays almost all the characters in the same way. I did enjoy that I didn’t have to pay close attention to the story and if I missed something, it didn’t take away from the story.

Stale - tired storyline

Well written, so many moments that had my jaw dropping in surprise! Would love to read a series about life after.

Great story

I finished the series in a few days. It was a great read and worth the time!

I did not give 5 stars because the following books did not keep me locked in as much as the first.

Loved all 4 books. Plot was interesting with many surprises and emotions brought forth. Voice acting was one of the best I’ve heard! Definitely recommend!

This series was a pleasant way to spend time. All the expected tropes of the genre are there. I recommend this series for older teens and adults who are into feel good fantasy romance. While I did catch some minor inconsistencies in the story canon, that won’t keep me from recommending this series. I would read more from this author.

Narration: One of my biggest gripes with female narrators is that the voices they lend to the male characters are often weak. No surprises here, but overall the narration was good.

An enjoyable story

Great storyline and plot. All the books flowed well together with constant action. The author did an excellent job at providing detail that was interwoven throughout the story and the voice actor did a fabulous job telling the story so it remained engaging!

Wholesome and Intriguing

Overall the story was sweet. Young abused human girl living as a foster child gets rescued by an entire secret race of fairies that she is unknowingly part of. Once she joins the “high school” run by the elven king who is also the head master (who has time to run an entire race of secret elves and a high school?) Don’t they have someone else they could hire? Then she falls instantly in love with the crown prince who has lived in the high school his entire life… seriously? Then all these magical powers start popping up like daisies in this girl. Then they discover she’s the enemy elf not the sweet life long living in the high school elf and they are totally cool with this. Then more of these dark evil elves start popping up as students in this non guarded royal high school/castle/government building/ battle training ground. Then this girl has insane powers that no one can touch and she is immune to the royal commands from both fairy factions and this doesn’t seem to worry the king… If I ruled an entire civilization of elves who were at war with another faction of elves and a nobody child of my enemy shows up in my war camp with insane powers I don’t think id be happy with this. Then we find out she’s the next in line to the evil throne. Still cool with her. Then the king is poisoned. Still cool with her. Then the new king is kidnapped and no one wants to go get him back. So the super elven princess goes with just her newly found parents and 2 friends and defeats the queen without injury and rescues her boyfriend king. Cute but seriously???

Cute story with a lot of gaps

I enjoyed the character development and the way the heroine had perseverance in every aspect of her life with exception to her social skills and the ability to deal with depression. Showing the lack of emotional control, because she had never been taught early in life shows how much “good” caregivers are needed in our homes, schools, and hospitals. The love story showed real people with real problems and how by the characters were determined to stand beside each other through it all. I look forward to reading more by this author.

True love without a mate bond.
